Campaign help, please?

Well, playing the first scenario, on map 2 (ch6) the "book" tells me to go west, but west is blocked by friendly neutral city (where a companion was). What should I do?

Exactly. Is there any way around that neutral city?

I'm practically stuck and unable to cross through.
