Is cyberlink a virus.

Why does this act like a virus

I'm amased that this is not classified as a virus. When u try to unistal a cyberlink product. First I'm surprised that my macafee virus checker doesn't flag this as a virus. What good is a virus checker that doesn't work. When you uninstall cyberlink software it will keep replicating itself nonstop in memory. If you delete this instead of add remove programs same thing. If you use your task manager to end program it will not stop. After this I would say never use cyberlink products this is a virus by definition; even, if it doesn't register by virus checkers. My question is why do virus checking programs flag good products as viruses or other malware, but don't identifying annoying programs that require an expert to fix. This have to register to not be a virus doesn't work. All mods are considered viruses.

Michael, what you are describing isn't a virus, but behavior designed into the product by the developer. Also, I had this problem when I booted my newest PC for the first time, which predates the GalCiv 3 announcement by a couple of months, so I had to have gotten it from somewhere other than from StarDock websites.

Oh I'm not saying that it is the stardock website. I'm talking about the Cyberlink products. This is not an attempt to trash Stardoc. I'm trying to warn everyone to star away from Cyberlink the company of software. If Cyberlink is part of Stardock please fill me in, but if you have the solution please fill me in.

No sarcasm intended. Maybe it is a virus.

Is this on an HP machine? I checked the Symantec forums and came back with the impression that Cyberlink is a program that comes installed on HP PCs. I also checked the HP website forums for Cyberlink and there is discussion about how to install it, but nothing about it refusing to uninstall. I am afraid this is getting a bit afield of my experience, but from what I was able to see on HP's forum it also looks like they may have had some problems with it's interaction with other programs/drivers that they ship with their computers.

If so then I think this is a question that should be asked of HP.

Could you make better thread titles? You seem to pick a single word as the title of your threads instead of using a more descriptive title. A good thread title should be descriptive yet short. It should be an advertisement to draw people in (those who might be interested), not be vague (which could mean just about anything).

If I were to make a thread like this, I might have use the title "Is Cyberlink a virus?". The example I gave marks Cyberlink as the topic, and defines it as a problem. Anyone who reads such a title will be able to quickly judge whether or not the thread interests them. Using your title of "Virus" however, does not allow for such a quick judgement. It could mean a computer virus, it could mean a biological virus, it mean the movie Virus, etc. Instead, potential readers will need to read part of your thread before they decide if it is worth reading or if they wasted their time reading it... assuming they bother to read at all.

A good way to think about it is to imagine that you work in the business of writing a news paper. If a person only had the time to take a glance at the front page before deciding to buy or not, what sentence could you use as the headline to draw people in without lying to or misleading the potential readers (because they might not buy another paper if the paper gets a reputation for twisting the facts).

If it has nothing to do with Galciv3, why are you posting this here?  It doesn't even remotely belong in the Galciv3 forums.

We need a negative karma button.

Mike, I think your best bet is to check with your internet security provider (mine is Norton 360 from Symantec) and pursue the problem with them. I am now having a problem with something called "OfferMosquito" that is trying to hijack my browser (FireFox) and I posted a query on the Symantec forum about it. I also found a web page that shows how to remove it, but it is a process I have used many times without success.

I hope you have luck with your internet security provider.

Thank you in the future I will try to be more descriptive with the name of the post. If someone no's what the malware programs are I sure would appreciate knowing them since there are a lot of good free programs out there, so I thought it would be nice to share this on the Galactic civilizations forums so you people wouldn't have to go through what I did. It appears I have solved the problem. My computer is a dell, so that might be the problem. If that was the problem then I would have liked to have a warning. I try not to download something that has been flashed as problematic. Most companies have made this hard; because, if the program haven't paid them money then it seems to me that it gets flagged as unreliable. Making it impossible to find good free programs not demos. Oh Yeah my internet security is Macafee.
