This depends on me supporting the founding program. Thanks!
we will be given Steam Codes that will unlock the game for us
As per the store page
"Do I get a Steam key if I become a founder?"Oh no no no. What gives you that idea? When you become a founder you are throwing money at Stardock. Nothing more. They give you a fancy badge. Thats all. If you expect a Steam key, you will have to buy that separately when it shows up on the store. Everyone else who has replied thus far are merely confused./joke----Serious now. Both founder packages will give you a Steam key at some point in time. The Founder Elite version will give you a Steam key as early as the first public Alpha, while the basic Founder version will give you a key when the public Beta is made available.Edit: Fixed a detail I got wrong about when the Steam keys start showing up.

I just reviewed the order page. The elite founders get the Alpha test code, the standard founders do not. Check it out. go to the very top of this page where you will find tabs. The right tab is the "store" tab. It takes you directly to the description of both order-able editions and the descriptions of what you get in each is there.
My bad. I'll update my previous post.
don't know what a "founde" is but I haven't seen anything about a steam key being handed out if you were one lol...
Okay really I'm assuming like everyone else did that you meant founder and yeah what they said
There are two packages that stardock is offering for testing the new game. One is for 99$ it will get you the Alpga, Beta, and any other game that they come out with Galactic civilizations 4 this is what they call the founder. The Alpha will give you better control over testing the new game for modifying it before they releasing the game. The other package will get you the beta for testing it before they release it. If your get the beta you are really only testing the final touch ups. I think it is more cost effective to buy the Alpha. beta, the game, and all the expansions to the game for 99$ than just the expansion for 40$, but that's just my opinion.
The more expensive package is more cost effective long term, if they make a lot of DLC. But the cheaper one gets you the game for a much lower cost now, so it's better if you don't have as much money lying around.
Actually, waiting untill the game (including all it's add-on's/dlc's) is on Steam for just a few bucks a bunch of years later is the most cost effective
This is kinda sorta true but not necessarily.
Now that 'GOTY' 'Uber' 'Gold' 'Platinum' 'Rust' 'Diamond' 'Gravy' versions of games are done post release, you have to wait a LONG time now for a game with a lot of addons to be released with everything. They also tend to just make the GOTY version the same as the retail price at release at release. So the curve is not nearly as steep as it usd to be.
You have to also factor in the time you are waiting into the cost.
Time is, after all, money.
