Other Stellar Options

Dyson Sphere (Shell) -  Could this be added to the game constructed to either harness the power of the star (Sun) or even like in Star Trek TNG give you a massive area of population?

Space Dock -  Could this be a new type of station to fix your ships faster or reload supplies to give more range?

Brown Dwarf -  Hazards that you wouldn't know exist until you fly to close enough to feel the gravitational effects which may or may not cause you to run into it.

Supernova -  (I could see this being a Mega Event) a star explodes and destroys it's system creating a dust cloud.

Space Creatures -  (This will eat on those that want a game based on scientific fact)  Living creatures that live in a low gravity area such as the giant space worms from Empire Strikes Back, or living creatures that actually explore space as in the various Star Trek Series'.

I'm not saying that I would like to see all or any of these options in the game, but here are a few things that have been in either the Film industry or exist in space, a few wouldn't be bad ideas for the game.

Thoughts or more options people can think of?

Nebulas - could reduce sensors to hide ships from enemies

God-like energy creature that judges humanity to be savage until our captain gives an impassioned speech on humanity's virtues.  For reference, any Star Trek episode ever.

I watched all 600+ star trek episodes earlier this year, and there seemed to be some reoccurring themes...

Here's a thought. This could also come under the category of space anomalies or Mega-eventa:

You can have stars that are going to super nova, or pulsar stars where at random intervals, the star goes through pulsing intervals or episodes of expansion and contraction. During these intervals (and there should be some sort of warning given a few turns in advance that this is going to happen), the surrounding hexes or parsecs could not be travelled through. If your ship or fleet happens to be in that area when the event occurs, the ships would be wiped out. If you happen to have a colonized planet in the affected area when this happens, you lose a random number of the planets population AND some of its buildings. In worst cases, you might even lose a land tile or two permanently.

A warning could be given 3 or 4 turns before this happens - something like one of those messages that occurs after every turn where it says something like: "Your scientists determine that the star "your name here" will pulse or expand in 3 turns". That way you have some advance warning not to have ships in a particular area. You could also achieve the same result maybe by having the star start blinking in the game - as a visual indicator.
