Multiplayer: MUST HAVE COOP OR TEAMS OPTION

I just bought an elite copy and one for my friend.

We plan on playing this game together, and like all games we play together, we vastly prefer to play on the same team or coop.

Now, in Civ5 teams shared research, I don't know if I prefer that or not but please SD remember to put in a teams option.

It seems like a common option but not all multiplayer games have it.

Agreed. I'm waiting to buy until I find out more about coop.

If it is any consolation, GalCiv 2 had the option to play as team with the AI. I think, it is therefore likely, that GalCiv 3 will have it too. However, it is no guarantee.

You bought blindly (hey, like me!) two Elite preorder for a game we know no much about, planning to play it together. So now...

MUST HAVE COOP OR TEAMS OPTION?

;)

I'm not against coop/teams, just hoping that if they are not in, you don't complain about the purchase. But if Hotseat is in the table, I don't see why coop/teams cannot be too. :)

We should have some fun still if we're resticted to playing against one another, but it would vastly increase the longevity if we could coop or play on the same team.

I would have thought this obvious, but since nobody has pointed it out yet....

this is is a 4x strategy game with a pretty decent diplomacy setup (based on galciv2)..... couldn't you just form an alliance in game without having a specific coop mode?

i personally find that more interesting since there is more trust required between allies than in a team setting where it is impossible to backstab your friend.

just my two cents, I'm not seeing the need for a team mode if the multiplayer has a similar diplomacy set up to the single player mode.

It's always possible to backstab an ally, you just have to be more creative about it. Influence flipping their planets, surrounding their planets with ships or starbases that they can't move through or destroy, sniping planets they were about to take, etc. Even selling them an undesirable tech to force them to deal with it can be a real dick move - something like Industrial Sectors to force them to either pay for the upgrades and maintenance or go through their empire cancelling them one by one. Or selling Xeno Ethics really early in the colony rush to deny them settlement events - good if they're playing Good and are into role play (or can't afford to pay to change), bad if they are playing Neutral or Evil. Obviously those examples are from GC2, but I'm sure GC3 will have similar creative ways to mistreat an ally.

Only if the multiplayer lets you do that. If it's a fenced off deathmatch only thing, you won't be able to create those alliances.

Also it needs to allow "Allied Victory"

Alliances are fine, in that they allow your ships to cooperate and maybe share the map. But you need to be able to have both players win also.

Seeing as GCII had teams, I see no reason why Stardock wouldn't implement it in GCIII, especially considering it was a completely optional feature.

None of the above actually contradicts the idea of alliances being better that a set coop mode. Keep the single player method of diplomacy and you elimate the restrictive team coop method which just sounds too dull to even consider. maybe I'm a dick but I like the idea that our carefully constructed alliance has obliterated all other players and just as we are about to claim victory my Ally  launches a long planned attack against several fleets and worlds I own... Makes things interesting...

I think you are safe. ;)
