Do you need to buy multiple copies of the game for local multiplayer?

No DRM but Steam + Account means: buy 2 copies for same household to play together?

Hi. The FAQ says:

Q: Will it have any copy protection?

A:No. Unless you consider requiring a user account copy protection (which we do require as it’s necessary to allow users to be able to re-download the entire game and receive updates and support).

Does this mean everyone can create a FREE account and play without buying the game? But the small notes below said something about Steam and Steam does not allow sharing (playing at the same time). So does this mean if I want to play together with my brother at the same apartment we both need to buy the game? Or is it possible/allowed to let him use my copy to play with him or any guest together?

Since when was "DRM free" mean you could steal the game?

Want 2 friends to play, buy 2 copies

Seriously wtf

It's not unprecedented for local multiplayer to be possible (and encouraged) with one copy. See Blizzard for the more well-known examples.

If this game is Steam only though, then local multiplayer will almost-certainly require multiple copies. Otherwise, we'll see.

Blizzard explicity had a 'spawn' system. And highly restricted spawn copies.

They did not allow you to copy the game onto multiple comptuers and play

Has Blizzard done this recently?  I though they had shunned LAN gaming. :/  I miss the original Starcraft and BroodWar LAN parties.

SC2 now has a spawn system

You stilll need to go online though and its linked more to their 'starter' versions

We bought many games twice like GTA 5, Half Life Orange Box and so on to play together but it would be nice if one copy would be enough for 2 Friends/Family in the same house. If he lifes somewhere else its normal to buy several copies but if he is living at the same location and does not play it often a "spawn" version like Blizzard used would be nice. For example without Campaign, just Multiplayer.

Any news about this?

Unless steam changes their methods of distribution, I would probably say this is not going to happen. Also, if they enable a hotseat multiplayer, but by the way they set up multiplayer it doesn' t look like that will happen either.

You'll both need a copy to play.

Ok, thanks. But it would be nice if Steam would allow two players to play one game in the same LAN (with family sharing).

Right now it tells you that someone is already logged in/playing and kicks the other one. :)

it would be nice but I doubt that'll happen at all.  That makes the system ripe for abuse

So there is not going to be Hotseat?  They need to at least of hotseat I love to play more than one side when playing TBS games (ala AOW3)

As far as we know there will be no hotseat. It has been mentioned on how they set up the multiplayer makes it a non-trivial change, and so it would require quite a bit of codework to implement. So, I don't think they are going to have a hotseat multiplayer.
