Some of these comments don't make sense like the Mac has always been known for superior graphics to the P.c. Yes until the Mac went to Intel processors it was a microcomputer. P.c. was a name given to the I.b.m. microcomputer. The reasons why people still cling to the P.c.'s is that they are easier to upgrade, program, and the non propriety of software and hardware. According to one survey half the computers use Linux on the planet.
Just three years ago I was solely using a distribution of linux called Knoppix to run my computer. One I couldn't find a way to use my windows programs. I called tech support for the internet and they wouldn't even help me to get on the internet, so I stopped my internet service. I wasn't going to have internet service I could 't use. I couldn't find out how to download software from the internet. For a modern operating you would think they would want their desktop to be competive with other operating systems. I like they have a Dos emulator, but if all your emulator does is run Dos programs and not work like dos what good is it.
I think the reason why people aren't gaming as much on Linux is it is not easy to find modern games, or Linux's idea of gaming is not modern. If there were more modern games on Linux, and they made it easy to download them then there would be more Linux gamers. Then you are also forgetting that windows is pretty much dummying down the computer. As long as windows insist on the user interface; eventually they are going to not have the desktop or have the classic shell. This is a huge incentive to go to Linux. I guess the only thing that keeps me on windows is games. With the user interface going to be the future of computing I'll be forced over to Linux. I really hope games will start to go over to Linux, so there will be good Linux games to play since windows is insisting on the user interface. Please don't make me go out and buy a Play station because windows is ruining the computer.
I dream of operating and software being free; because, of Linuxes method of deciding what software to download you don't have to worry about bullying free programs. Where areas windows free programs try to Hijack your computer. Free programs work better on Linux than windows. Yes I dream of a computing where you don't have to pay for software.
The reason there aren't as much gamers on Linux is because there aren't modern games on Linux. If more games port to Linux there would be more gamers on Linux. This is good for Stardock down the road. Let's not forget about the other gaming platforms. It would be cost effective to port to other gaming platforms. Another reason to remember is that Bill gates is planning to destroy computer gaming while he wants everyone to use the Xbox instead, so this is a good reason to go to other platforms since Microsoft is trying to throw you off.
We are actually talking about only changing the graphics part of the programs. Linux is 64 bit. If Stardock is smart they would have made their graphics seperate modules, or better yet seperate programs. For the most part Linux has the same kind of languages as windows. The only you have to change is how it handles DirectX. They could call in someone to reprogram this. They should have descent documentation that tells them where this is. If they are using a word processor instead of the native text editor, and saving it in text mode. Then this would be an easy search issue. They could come out with the game first then port to other platforms. Yes the game could be made to do this. I totally support DerectX 10 and 64 bit, but uf you went to platform of something else there is no reason you couldn't dummy this down, or hard code the graphics.
