Unfortunately I didn't get the job in the end. I guess that's what happens when you try for a Junior position with over 2 years of previous experience. I felt positively old sitting there amongst the other candidates, and I'm only just 25!

Let's just hope it isn't another year before I get my next interview...

By the way, if anyone knows of somewhere looking for an experienced Web Designer in the UK, let me know. It's a long shot, I know...

Sorry to here about your job interview. I went 16 months of being over or under qualified, but I was in my mid 40's. What a depressing time. Good thing the wife was working. Finally took a government job.

I'm in the South East, Mr Benn. Compared to the situation with web jobs, those looking for IT positions have a virtual goldmine open to them. If you know Visual Basic or C++ or whatever, there are literally hundreds of jobs out there. If you're skilled with Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash on the other hand, you're pretty much screwed.

I've been trying to get something for almost six months now. I'm out of work at the moment, so it's becoming increasingly desperate - hence my driving for 8 hours to go to an interview for a junior position.

I'm really starting to regret taking the web career route a few years ago, and am actually kicking myself for not continuing with Software Engineering after getting my degree in the field.

this may be a silly idea, but since you are in the UK, have you considered doing some OU computer courses?

perhaps useful if you want to aim at programming type jobs instead.

i have done several of them, so can comment on the ones i have done.

I used to get jobs e-mailed to me every day, and there was always tons of jobs listing the skills you mentioned. I thought it would have been easy to get a job at your age and with your skills! I am VERY surprised. I wish you luck, and if you want to work in a casino as a croupier, I can give you a job anytime, but I doubt it's something you would want to do.
