Help with Skype

I started to use Skype for the first time yesterday and I like the program.

Until I started to hear about issues like bandwidth usage and security issues.

I looked all over the place but I did not get conclusive answers to my questions.

To the Skype Experts, My questions are:

1.) Is Skype a large enough of a bandwidth hog that it might use up the bandwidth allowance at an alarming rate?

and

2.) What are some concrete security issues with Skype?

Any answers would be appreciated.

I am NOT a skype 'expert', BUT I am a computer AND network tech, so I think I can answer your issues

1 video calls and video conferencing can USE a lot of bandwidth, and the voice only calls STILL want more bandwidth than a dialup connection (48kiloBIT) offers, so if you use video calls a lot or for long times then you can run you internet traffic over your account's limits

2 I know of no security issues if you turn OFF the options for anybody to contact you(both calls and texts restricted to those in your contacts list) in skype, but as it CAN transmit AND receive files there is the possibility of such issues.

hope this helps
