Pirate ships in Diplomacy

I've been away from sins for a while and just played a few games of Diplomacy.

I noticed Pirate ships have armor ratings up in the range of 23 - 28. Makes them functionally immune to things like mines, and bombers/fighters. soaking them with fire from masses of frigates doesn't seem to do much either when engaging large groups.

Anyhow, why did the developers make pirate ships so disproportionally better than even battleships in terms of armor, and masses of them so disproportionately difficult to defeat? they should be a distraction at best in my opinion.

Any plans on the horizon to fix this?

The devs made a post stating it would be fixed in a couple months but that was long long ago Pirate Dilemma. The DEVs are very rarely heard from anymore. Stardock has Ironclad chained and locked in the basement with no internet.

I was going to create a post about this....what's up with the total lockdown from Ironclad? It one thing not to give info about up coming projects until you ready to show something. But it is 2011, there must be some internal shit going on. This site should be more interactive with players, and not just when they are ready to sell something.

Best Mod of Our Game Rewards.....that kind of stuff.....

To be honest I do not have a problem with the strength of the pirates when being raided, given enough bombers a star base and some repair bays they still give good battleship XP :D

The two issues I have with pirates are:

1) Over a period of time left over pirate ships from aborted raids (if all bounty is used up aborted second raids seem to stay in the pirate home forever) seem to build up in the pirate systems and you end up with a ludicrous number of ships in them. Taking such a system ends up being a drawn out series of attacks and retreats as you whittle them down.

2) In single player the AI cannot cope with pirates making it far too easy to take them out.
