Weekend events and thoughts on current events
I took both kids (son and daughter) to a concert on Saturday that we all enjoyed. Carbon Leaf. A mix of country/ folk/ Celtic/ rock/ pop music that is, as you can see from that list, a little hard to categorize other than say highly enjoyable. If you have the chance to catch them, do it. They put on a nice entertaining show that should leave you well satisfied when you leave the show.
In the thoughts on current events, I have to pause for a bit an include a note about being incredibly frustrated with my wannabe-beloved Washington Nationals for having lost their former slugger Adam Dunn over to the Chicago White Sox. Ugh. They could have extended his contract ages ago but failed to do so during last season, when they likely could have signed him in the depressed market and gotten the type of discount pricing they seemed to be insisting on getting. Instead he took Chicago's money and is off to the windy city. Bleh.
Today news hit that the Nationals signed a 7 year deal with outfielder Werth. Ugh, yeah, sure, nice to steal a competing team's player, but 7 years for a player that is already on the other side of 30 years of age?? Really?! It may be a great deal, but when he's 39 or 40 years of age trying to finish out the contract will he really be productive? I hope so. Meanwhile the Nationals still need a first baseman, and could still use upgrades in other outfield slots. And starting pitching, and relief pitching, and, well, you get the idea... lots of holes to fill.
Now, on to the bigger current events news. Wikileaks is promising that if they get shutdown they have a big poison pill of information to set forth on the world that could wreak havoc. Basically they're telling the world that no one should mess with them for fear that a great big trove of additional secrets could be released. They may be bluffing, they may have such a trove, or they may just have a small pile of stuff that really isn't that impressive. Without calling their bluffs, there's no way of knowing for sure, though I must say that their current behavior in even talking about poison pills is yet another level of proof that they are nothing more than terrorists themselves, deserving of being tossed into places like Gitmo for many years to come. If they want to talk poison, I'd rather hope it would be in the form of tablets that they could swallow in manners similar to what we've all been told old spies would use when they were captured. Just. Frackin'. Go. Away.
Seriously, I'm glad to see their finances taking a hit, and glad to see that ISP's no longer want to host their materials. Isolation looks pretty darned good on them.
