Auto-Place Structures?

Whenever I build a defense structure or research lab, I used to be able to place them where ever I wanted. Now they place themselves - and usually in bad locations! Does anyone know the cause of this and/or how to fix it?

There's an infinity symbol next to the build menu that control whether structures are auto-placed or not.

It's the one in the upper left with the three squares over the infinity symbol.  You can toggle auto-place on-and-off using that button.
