Explorer.exe using 50% CPU [dual core] and over 1 gig memory

This happens when renaming files/folders

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

OK, let me see if I can explain this so you will understand lol

If I make a new file/folder on the desktop [or use an existing one] and right-click rename, the first time explorer.exe is only using around 20-30 megs of memory and CPU usage is normal, but if I right-click on the file/folder a second time and attempt to rename it explorer.exe imedeatly jumps to 50% CPU usage [dual core] and the memory jumps to over 1 gig, which makes the computer lag terribly. The only way I can rectify the problem is to log off/log on or end the explorer.exe process and restart it.

This happends with all skins except Windows Classic, Aero and Stardock Design's Aero Colours

I can replicate this bug any time I want using the method above so I know for a fact that it's a Window Blinds bug.

Now here's the wierd part:
If I put the file/folder into another folder on the desktop the problem does not happen, and does not happen when renaming file/folder within any other folder on the computer, this only happends on the desktop.

Any ideas how to fix the problem ?o_O :S

Thanks JG49

Do you have Fences or Deskscapes installed?

I have tried to reproduce this but cannot.  The cpu and memory remain at normal levels.

Thanks for the reply Neil,

Never had Fences installed, I had Deskscapes installed about a month ago for a couple of weeks but removed it because I was having problems with it.

The Stardock apps I have installed currently are:

Impulse
Icon Packager
Icon Developer
Icon Explorer
Cursor Effects
Logo On Studio Vista
SkinStudio 7
Tweak 7
WindowBlinds (BETA2)
WindowBlinds
ObjectDock Plus (runnig 3 docks)

All of the above are updated to their most recent builds

Is it possible the uninstall of Deskscapes left reg entries behind that could be mucking things up ?

Thanks

Sounds like you have something running in the background.  How about your security, anti-virsus or anit-malware software?

The only security software I use is ESET Smart Security Version 4.0.314.0, (purchased in March) all modules are current.

I have to agree that some background process that affects the desktop itself must be incompatible with WB 7 or the other way around.

I've downloaded Sysinternal's Process Explorer from MS, mabey it will shed some light on what's happening when the bug occurs.

I'll be back |-)

In advanced settings (UIS2/1 only) I unchecked
"I want skins to be able to apply textures to the back of explorer windows"
and the problem went away.

I have know idea why that setting should have anything to do with rightclick renaming files/folders on the desktop but in my case it does.

So now, unfortunatly, I don't get the full functionality of Window Blinds 7 and have to look at the default crappy white Explorer backgrounds.

Hopefully this will get fixed in a future update.

Thanks

I have the same issue. Quadcore Phenom II, 8 Gb Mem and gtx 260 216 core. I only run desktop fences and window blinds.

It only pegs 25% cpu for me but jumps to over a gb of usage and lags like hell.

on a side note, disabling the textures does not fix the issue for me. For now I guess I'll refrain from renaming stuff on my desktop, lol.
