the line is broken by the other phase lane (from capital planet to ice planet) To extend line take the next planet after the ice planet and this should correct the problem
Just a heads, the trade line will shift off of the asteroid below the capital planet
The trade route system is the subject of frequent inquiries.
The reason your trade route doesn't extend to the asteroid is because the asteroid is equally close to the terran planet (the last link in the chain) as it is to the ice planet. As a result, it doesn't extend the length of your longest chain. If you had a trade port in the next planet after the asteroid, your longest route would ignore the ice planet and instead travel through the asteroid and on to the next planet.
its silly, its a matter of the shortest longest path if that makes sense. i.e. it will go as long as possible but wont loop around or take the scenic route to make sure it is the longest route...
i posted a similar thread about this, someone posted a pic (i think it was from a wiki) about trade routes etc. one of the more interesting points is that you can channel your trade route by choosing where and where not to put trade ports, that way the optimum route mechanic doesnt have to think too much, and cant screw you over by being lazy.
i would however like it to be fixed, or, alternatively, be scrapped in favour of something new and altogether more important. perhaps an optimum trade route has merchant protection (ie police forces) and pirate raids on your OTR cause economic damage that can be felt.
otherwise, just leave it, forget about it, and get possibly the same amount of credits by putting ports on all your planets?
The last point is incorrect - there is actually a bonus for the longest trade route. IIRC, it's something like .1 per planet in the chain per trading port in your empire (Regardless of whether they're on the 'longest route' or not).
So you can have it add up pretty quickly, and it's worth doing.
I personally prefer the refinery method, where you wanted as many short range routes as possible; it felt a lot more intuitive.
