a PC fantasy game with a cracking story? recommendations?

Been poking around at the elemental forums and reading some of the stuff there and it's kinda made me want to play a fantasy game.  Looking for recommendations.

I mainly play MMOG's and RTSs alongside 4x games.  But love a good RPG when I can get my hands on them.  Thing is I become rapidly bored with travel times and 1001 subquests.  I play MMOG's - I wanna break from that =P.  Couldn't even deal with running round a city in KotOR last time I fired it up.

I'm not much of a twitch gamer, I kinda get frustrated when I have to reload that game yet again because I missed the triple backflip and ended up in the lava/sea/bottomless pit yet again.  Also get tired of trying to get rsi/carpal tunnel by clicking like a mad man when playing diablo.

Really really liked the small scale tactics of Disciples 2, tried to fire up Heroes of Might and Magic yet again, but that wasn't delievering.  Anyone recommend an RPG/adventure game that is strong on storyline and extremely low on inventry/travel time and subquests?
