Name change.

I changed my account name (from Micah71381 to Micah) but in-game I still show up as Micah71381.  I logged in with the new credentials.

Good name change, I never understand it when I see people in the beta with names with lots of extra numbers at the end, since there are totally not enough people here for there to be overlaps.  Claim the good names before everybody else gets a chance at them!  Haha.

As for name changing once you've picked, I don't know what the policy currently is, but I think players ought to be given the ability to change their name a certain number of times, with a waiting period.  That way you don't get frequent name changes just to harass people, but if you realize that you hate your name, you have the ability to change it.

Since the online component uses the same accounts as impulse/forums, and there are well more than 3,000,000 of those.... not so much :p

[DG log-on-name bug ?]

I live with my dad. I don't want to use his Impulse Account nickname to log-on to DG when I want to play. So, I changed the Impulse nick (in the Community section of Impulse) to mine : Sorceresss.

When I log-on to DG/Internet, "Sorceresss" is now accepted as the log-on nick to enter the lobby (which is OK, since it's the new Impulse nick associated to the Account's e-mail address) ... but it is then my dad's nick that appears : it is indicated in the lower left corner, and if I join a game, I'm identified with my dad's nick -- which really pisses me off !

How is that possible? How come I'm allowed to log-on DG/Internet with the new Impulse Account's name ... and at the same time still be identified with an old nick which has been removed ?!?

The Impulse Server, when notified of a log-on attempt, does recognize the new nick ... but when I get into the Internet Custom Game lobby, I'm stuck with the old nick. How is that possible?

I have my own style of play, and I really don't want to be stuck with my dad's nametag. (If he wants to play, he can always change the nick within Impulse ... but as I've just described, the process does not seem to work properly.)

At the moment, if I launch Impulse, the Account is clearly identified with my nickname (Sorceresss). How come the DG lobby does not recognize it ... after having accepted it to log-on ?!

What about the in-game profiles?  Maybe they are causing your problems :)

I created a new in-game profile before logging ... and I still got mis-identified with my dad's nickname.

I could delete my dad's profile ... but then, I would have to pay rent at another place. ^_^

But the technical point is simple :

I log-in as "Sorceresss", and that works fine ... but then, I am told, in the lobby, that my log-in name is something else (my dad's Impulse nick before I changed it) !

The DG programme is thus in self-contradiction.

This seems to me to be an important issue. If more than one person in a household want to play at DG without using the nickname of another family member, they should be able to go into Impulse prior to game launch to change the Impulse Account's user name. That part is easy to do ... but then, the DG lobby does not want to recognize the switch ... despite the obvious :

If Impulse user U logs-in successfully as N, he should then be identified as N in the lobby and in a game.

This has been bugged for a while, there was never an official response on why or when it will get fixed. Hopefuly before release.

Thanks ... for confirming the obvious : it is a [BUG].

But anyway, I wonder where the game programme still retrieves my dad's nick, when the Impulse account and my log-in name are now under my nick. If the programme is stuck on the old nick, it must pick it up somewhere, in some file : it does not conjure it up from thin air.

I'll try this. Install DG on our other home computer, which has no trace of DG within. If I then log-in as Sorceresss and see my dad's nick in the lobby, I'll know that the bugged process cannot have picked up the info in a file on the computer : it will then have to have been picked up on a Stardock server.

I'll report back here when I get the result.

EDIT. REPORT > It didn't work. Even though I logged with the current Impulse Account Name ("Sorceresss"), the DG lobby stated that my nickname was something else (the one my dad used before I changed the Impulse Name).

Is there a contradiction within the Stardock servers ? One part of their server system knows that our Impulse Account Name is currently "Sorceresss" ... but another part of their system insists in feeding to the DG lobby the old Name -- even though it was not used to log-in the DG lobby !

3½ days later, with the topic falling down in the list : no official reply !

I wonder why nobody from Stardock cares to reply : seems to me it is a legitimate complaint.

Why can I log-in with the new Impulse Account's Name ... and then the lobby and the game tell me that I'm logged-in with an old Impulse nick ?!

Can't the Stardock server stop contradicting itself ?

As I have explained above, the issue (= BUG) is a valid point ... if people living in the same house wish to use different in-game I.D.s (In my case, I don't want to be associated with my dad's DG nick !)

Hmmm

I guess the topic is a little bit different, but it points back to the same issue - the Impulse ID tie-in is gonna cause you a world of hurt if you can't make it consistent
