Terror Stars, etc.

Ok, maybe I'm a complete idiot and I totally don't know what I'm doing, but what is the point to turning a Starbase into a Terror Star? From the hints given during the game, I thought I'd be able to kick major ass if I had a Terror Star. However, in one game I had 5 or 6 of them, and they were nothing but a glorified starbase. I couldn't attack anything with them. Did I do something wrong or what? What things can a Terror Star do that a Starbase can't? Also, there are mentions during the game about the possibility of creating new star systems. Is this possible in the game? Finally, I've tried submitting scores for a while now, and I'm getting pretty frustrated with the whole thing. I see the Metaverse score system as another incentive to play a fun game. Without it working for me, I will probably move on to another game a lot sooner.

Terror stars can destroy star systems. select one and click on an enemy star system. the terror star will travel there then.....poof no more star system

Yeah i was wondering about creating planets i started a thread about that literally two minutes ago.

A Terror star loaded with Cultural improvements can also be effective in "culture bombing" an "enemy" civ. Move the terror star into another civ's sector, add a good dose of destabilization and watch the planets decide they need to be part of your Empire without firing a shot. The only draw back is that the alien race may demand the terror star or declare war... so be prepared, and guard your terror star.

Yeah, I've used the Terror Star/Starbases to convert enemy planets with great results. I had about 30 planets rebel and join my side in about 15 turns, this is WAY easier than declaring war and attacking. Thanks for the answers. I think I tried destroying several uninhabited star systems, and when that didn't work, I gave up. Terror Stars should be able to attack ships as well.

They also attract enemy ships like hotcakes, which depending on the difficulty level and your TS's defense modules may be a good thing.

At least on Normal, the AI doesn't seem to use AMMs, which would probably be a TS user's worst nightmare. Boom, 5000 BC and numerous constructors down the drain unless you intercept the missile with your other ships first.

I've seen one trying to build one.

That is until I noticed what it was doing, and stopped it!
