How long before a phase gate will work ?

I'm experimenting with phase gates at the moment.

After you build 2 of them, 1 each on separate planets, how long does it take before they become active and you can send a ship directly between them ?

So far, I've built 2 gates on each planet, and they will not join. I'm wondering if its something I've done wrong, or if I'm not being patient enough ?

I've noticed in previous games that varsari planets often have 2 gates, and havent figured out why. But thought it might need 2 on a planet to initilise the gate system or something ?

Whats the stuff missing from the manual on using phase gates ? And why wont they work the moment the second one is built ?

You have to wait till both are completly finished building. Also there is no line on the map connecting them that you can see. But once both are finished building (and they do take awhile to build) you can move a ship between them.

apricot let me go over this for you.

1st both have to be in the same star system as serpent said.

2nd It doesn't create a physical phase lane between the two. What you do is if you have ships in the planetary gravitational field of one of the planets with a phase gate you give it a move order to your other planet with a phase gate. The ships will fly then to the edge of your grav well and perform a phase jump to the location of the other gate.

1 system map, so no problem there.

What happens with the blue line that show the jump ? Does that join direct or does it show the 'normal' route ? Maybe I'm just not allowing it to work because I am not seeing the blue line go one to the other ?

It seems like you have to wait 10 or so minutes before it will work. It really needs to be stated somewhere.

Waited 15 and nothing :(

That would actually be more than 30 minutes since the first 2 gates were completed.

If I remember the thread correctly, there is some odd thing that you have to wait a certain amount of time after the planet is colonized before it works...

I wish I could find where that is specified (so I can take it out).

In the files I mean, not the thread. :)

Hmmmm, ok will try it again and see if it ever does come online or not.
