Advent voices

Fairly new to the game, but i've had a quite a while to play as both TEC and Vasari.

Finally got around to the Advent today, and was kinda miffed at the fact that everybody sounds like a little child. Seems to detract from the race to me.

what do you guys think?

i honestly didn't find the voices that bad,
they fit what they're supposed to: a mostly female society that has a very "soft" surrounding.
they don't all sound like they're young and the one mothership always sounds like its mad at me.
i honestly think the voices are perfect for every race even though people keep complaining about the vasari.
if you look at it their voices do fit for how they vocalize and they're alien so
it wouldn't be like ours anyway so stop complainging.
but i still think that the advent voices do fit for how their lore is built.

I think the Advent have the best voices in the game. (That's not really saying much, but there ya go.)

I don't think that cybernetically enhanced, psionic starship captains need to be grizzled old men with a voice born of decades of smoking and bad attitude.

I think it's funny how many young men who play this game hate the Advent voices but like perfectly horrible voices like that of the Marza Dreadnought.

So true, so true. Young men.

I'll mostly play Advent and Vasari and like their voices very much. All of the voices in the game feel very professional and fitting in my mind, so it's strange that people keep complaining about advent sounding "childish". If you would be cybernetically and psionically enhanced and part of collective mind, you would be, in theory, able to command warships before age of ten! The most important aspect of your mind would be the creativity and imagination and not the amount of information; You're part of a collective mind, you don't need to learn anything, you just know what you need to know. And if you or somebody else learns something new, basically everybody in the vicinity (A planet, spaceship etc.) learns it too. Clear as liverpie.
Have any of you read Alastairs revelation space books? Conjoiners in these books correspond advent in SOASE very much, though they aren't fanatical about spreading their way of life like advent.

Back to voices: One of my favourites is Vasari capital carriers "Phase-jump... INITIATING!". I just love the tone of the captains voice, like the warping would actually be a bad thing. Go figure, If we think about Vasari lore, phase-jumping can actually be considered as bad thing for them; Their mysterious nemesis tracking them by following their jump signatures.

Funnily enough my friend (a good friend too, not some "just familiar") likes TEC voices and TEC overall. He's year younger than I but still seem to have that "young men" syndrome. Always picking the most masculine, militaristic and general humankind races and factions in games. For example in DOW:DC (FOK mod) he always plays with IG while I pick normal or chaos marines or tau. He says tau are for sissies and thinks them as pancy grots. Ironically he gets his ass handed over to him when I start playing around with microed stealth-suits and rail-gun equipped pathfinders. Watching a grown man cry can be pretty amusing.

This seems to be case for majority of teenager gamers and some older geezers who seem to have problems with their self-confidence as men, so they "remind" themselves that they are men by doing doing everything masculine way. And don't get me wrong, I'm pretty normal guy myself but have way too much imagination and thought to degenerate to the level of some people who think that physically stronger always wins. Greekah bundolo!

And if this offended somebody may I be spanked with powerfist for heresy!  :D

No problem with their voice quality here, particularly when you compare it to the dialogue travesty and voiceover quality of many other space-faring games like Hegemonia or Nexus. To me they sound young but not immature, and not to the point where you'd confuse them with an average female 12-year-old.

Tau are for sissies and they're a bunch of pancy grots. ^_^

Real men play Eldar.

Not those lame, emo, S&M fetish, Clive-Barker-ripoff Dark Eldar, either. I mean the pretty, graceful ones with the colorful powered armor!

(I love Eldar.)

I think the voices are fine. It might just be me though; I use the Advent the most, which is slightly more than the TEC.

I actually love the voices. Actually one of the first things that drew me to the race - the style of the ships, and the eerieness of the voices.

They're all women - but they'll tear your face off if you mess with their babies.

There's something... feminine about the idea of being expelled from society due to religious fervor, and then coming back with a vengeance to spread your new "gospel".

I dig it.

Maybe a good thread would be:'

"What are your favorite capital ship voices?"

I like all three voice sets though I guess the Advent would be my least favorite with the Vasari being my favorite. I do love the Marza voice though. "Want something destroyed?"

I actually loathe all of the voices in the game, but I dislike the Advent a bit less than the others.

Over-dramatic, cute, character-filled one-liners are good in a game like Warcraft, but every time I play Sins, I find myself missing the calm, professional, realistic voices of Homeworld.

All games have a mood, and the voice acting is what helps set that mood, and the mood set by Sin's voices is just... campy.

I say the Advent are my favorite, because they're the ones I can actually bear to listen to without it completely ruining the mood for me.

When I play any other race, I just turn the voices completely off. Yeah, you've got to keep an eye on your announcements playing like that, but it's still a vast improvement over listening to some cocky surfer dude ask me, "What now?". Gah.

Personally, I think that having a resume that says "I was the voice of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Starscream" would be a good way of NOT getting hired. ^_^

Yeah, I have a big problem with the vasari voices, because they sound very human, just raspy. They I'm thinking every effort that was made to make them sound human was done by the voice actor/s and nobody changed anything after the recording.

I was going to post that I'm a young man and I think the Advent's voices are good. I agree that, given their background/lore, the feminine/softer voices are the way to go. This, then, would obviously elevate me to some level above the immature young men out there.

Then I realized that, at 1 month from being 30 years old, I'm not actually a young man anymore. Crap...

I dont have a problem with any of the voices, the Marza dreadnaught just sounds like he smokes alot.

The Khol is the best in my opinion.

"times of war are upon us"
He sounds weary and worn out yet steadfast.

people saying there to manly?
lol WTF?
How can something be TO MANLY, its massive war TEC have there humans doing two things.

Breeding(the females)
Fighting(the males)

I would like to see capships staonied in a colony planet gravity well increase the planets population growth rate... kinda like real life ;)

I dunno... maybe in the expansion we should have a race of little immature girls -- with school girl outfits!1!1!11...

The TEC had the best ones in the Beta, and the Vasari were cool too (although they sounded like Protoss. There was even a mod that replaced their voice overs with Protoss voice overs :P)

Make it a new research ability in the expansion.

---

"Shore Leave"

New shipboard practices raise the morale of any capital ship crew in orbit of a friendly planet, increasing its hull repair rate and weapons cooldown by X. In addition, any planet with a friendly capital ship in its gravity well will have its population growth rate increased by Y.

---

Also the "surfer dude" voice and others from the TEC fit perfectly, seeing as the Trader military is less than ten years old. There's no military culture in place.

I think the Advent's voices really fits the race and I'm young and a teen
The seeker vessel sounds a little too cute but I like it

Vasari sound like they are dying when they talk (Well their empire is dead, once again it fits)

For TEC what else are you suppose to do on long cargo hauls other than chain smoke :p ;)? You take away the smokes, put'em in the captain's chair of a ship with lots of nukes and guns and VOILA you got yourself a planet bomber.

Tau and Eldar are sissies
Necrons all the way no need for voiceovers other than Pariahs
Silence is Bliss  :d

honestly, as a male, i think the advent voices are kinda sexy.

The advent voices are made of character. They fit with the idea of a hippie commune peaceful group with a grudge the size of the universe so well. The shift from peaceful calm, bliss spreading missionary to furious warrior seeking vengeance is amazing, and makes the advent a joy to play. The other two suck so much I can't play them, although the vasari are better than the tec on virtue of not having made me scuttle a fleet simply because of the voices.

Opinions are opinions. No one is unbiased.

That being said, I'm biased towards the TEC. Hate me if you must, but "UNLEASH MY POWER!!" just does not sound like a ship's captain.

Neither does someone whos voice cracks in fear when you issue an attack order (Cobalt).

On a less subjective level, one of the things I dislike about many of the voice clips is that they're too much like an individual's response.

What I mean is that you click on a ship and it says something like, (not direct quotes) "What can I do for you?", or "My robots are ready", or "Gotta job for me?"

These responses make the ship feel like just a single guy, much like a unit in a game like Warcraft, instead of like a huge ship crewed by hundreds if not thousands of people.

I don't necessarily mind if the TEC voices, for instance, aren't full of proper military protocol, but they still need to convey the feeling of talking to a ship's captain, even if he's an unprofessional ship's captain.

And I'll still believe a ten-year-old girl is the captain of an Advent ship long before I'll believe that a nineteen-year-old surfer is the captain of a Human merchant vessel.

does anyone else notice that seeker vessels sound like the Red Queen from Resident Evil

I love the Advent voices since there are so powerful and other-worldly sounding. The slight echo helps too
