Newbie TEC: To trade outpost or not to trade outpost?+ 1 upgrade question

Hi I have noticed some talk about trade outposts and as TEC I havent been bothering with them. Im just wandering what people think regarding TEC, my logic was that initially it takes some time to get civ infrastructure up on 2 or 3 planets and if I want to get up the military tech tree fast well is a trade OP not costing 1 logistics slot? Also say I do build one how does it work for example say I have simply 2 adjacent planets :

TOP@P1 <----------------->TOP@P2

I take it that gives a set amount of cedits every so often? Now what about the setup where there are 3 planets and the middle planet has NO trade outpost

TOP@P1 <-------->NO_TOP@P2<--------->TOP@P3

Will planet 1 and 3 both trade and have money comming in even though they are seperated by other planets? Im sure I read something about foreign tradelanes working better or something, maybe Im getting mixed up but I dont understand what that means in practice . (How to know which ones are foreign? Maybe Im mixed up here but sure I read something along these lines)

Thanks again all, Im just interested to know what you all think and if what Im doing is putting me at a real disadvantage and if theres a way to have trade outposts and still having enough logistics to get as high as possible military research

One final thing, its in regards to upgrades. I like to get all the military upgrades that enhance weapon damage and my question is when I get these upgrades via research, does this affect ALL ships i.e already built ships + future ships?

It is putting you at a disadvantage. TEC's surperior trait is its economy and by not building tradepost your significantly crippling your income. As far as how tradepost work you build one on two or more planets and they will automatically start trade routes. Tradepost don't give you a deposit for everytime they complete a trade route they give you a certain amount of money per second like planets. I don't know exactly how much money you get but for example if you have a tradepost on two asteriods the trade income will be more than the asteriod income. You can sometimes make more money on trade income than planet income depending on how many tradeposts you have. Also the more tradepost you have per planet the more income you make for that planet trade wise. Tradepost are a definant must for a good economy, I know it may take some money and time to research, and get them but they are worth it by far.

also you don't need a tradepost per planet, if there are three planets and the middle one doesn't have a tradeport then the two outside ones will simply trade through it.

Wow seems like Im missing out by neglecting them then.......thanks! I also added 1 more question in my initial post and thats me sorted to try a whole host of things in game :) and Im away to play the game for the rest of the night. Its regarding military weapon and shield upgrades and whether they affect all ships past, currently building and future ships.

Cheers for input regarding trade ouposts , that would have helped me very much when I was getting attacked so much in a game I had to defend, with that extra income I probably could have taken more planets!

Ahh ok thanks , I thought that after what you said initially but now I know without a doubt thats very handy.

Trading posts do work across non-trade post sectors, but as I understand it the value of each of your trade posts will increase based on the length of your longest trade route - and a trade route requires a trading post in each conquerable sector in the chain. To see your longest trade route when you have posts built, mouse over your gold total at the top of the interface. So yes, you can skip a sector, but if there could be a colony there (even a dead asteroid colony), it will interrupt a trade route for determining the income of each trading post. The posts will still be worth plenty of money though.

And yes, as I understand it, the military upgrades apply to all of your ships, both already-built and yet-to-be-built.

I typically wait til I have 5 or so colonies in a line before embarking on a campaign to build tradeposts, however, once you have that, they pay for themselves rather quickly. They do require a considerable up front investment, however, between logistical slot upgrades and the trade posts themselves. Consider that any one tradepost will provide 1-1.5 credits per second. That means it will be 10 minutes or more before you see the credits you invested back. So if you're going to need that money for something more ugent, it might be a good idea to wait.

dieinafire is right about the cost. but to me TEC shine with tradeports often times I'll dedicate an entire planet to them espicialy desert and then just have one on every other planet the income is incredibly high. thats one thing the game does very well, tradeports.

Hi all, just been reading about the karma system, in the past few weeks of having the game someone somewhere has awarded me 1 point hehe. Aparently its a good thing, after reading what the point of karma is well Im just trauling my old threads and am going to give karma to as much people as the system permits who have really helped me. Dont know if there is a certain amount but thus far I have been really cut major slack on the forums being a newbie. (I have paricipated in many forum communitys and Im worried how long the good times can last lol. Probably sealed my fate now with this comment hehe)

Hmm strange says I can only give once every 10 mins and that was the first time ever I tried? Ow well I will try again in 10 mins.
