End of Turn Freeze

I've run into an annoying bug, reproduceable from save games (mailing those in as soon as I find 'em on my HD...).  Soemtimes, when I hit "end turn" the game processes the turn... then freezes, locking itself up.  No way to hit "end turn" again, no processing of next turns events... just sitting there waiting for it to start the next turn.

That usually means that you have a ship with movement points that were only partially used. Hit your tab key and it will take you to the ship or ships that have moves left and when you tell them what to do, the turn will finish processing.

Scincerely,

I just had this occur last night, only ship I had was my flagship (don't even think I had my miner anymore), and at full movement points.

Pressing tab does NOT help -- as far as I can tell, its not my ships that are getting hung up.

That said, alt-tabbing to get to the forums seems to break it open sometimes... which is weird, to say the least.

Edit: It seems there is some background processing (other players ships) going on that takes a lot longer on some turns than others... its a tiny map, so it shouldn't be taking this long, but is. Whats odd is alt-tabbing seems to "kick-start" the process sometimes...

Zooming the galaxy view screen in and out often works for me when this happens.

I find the simply moving the map to a different area seems to work.

But the problem here is I never systematically checked it, I always just waited until I noticed it was taking long and then moved the screen to some other part of the map. It could be that my patience runs out at about the right time.

At anyrate I have noticed this to happen as well.

Well, I timed it a little. "Normal" turn processing would take from 10-30 seconds (got longer later on), one of these "spikes" took upwards of 10 minutes. (Usual spike was closer to 2-3 minutes, I think... didn't keep accurate records past the one where I got really ticked at how long it took).

Could the "spiking" have something to do with the map settings I choose? Max players, max nuetrals, but on a tiny map with few stars and fewer inhabited worlds?

I don't use any of those map settings. Lots of time I am Immense with 4 Players no Minors and various planet and star settings all higher then yours.

10 minutes eh?

It seems the game just needs to be woken up somehow. I normally just move the view screen, the theory here is that something that is onscreen ATM is stuck as long as you are viewing it so if you view something else it should start moving.

Of course that was just a guess. But it seems to work.

Upwards of. I used a really precise timing device of watching TV -- it took from before the beginnings of one set of commercials, until after the ending of the next set of commercials.

Try the latest build. A number of issues causing stuck turns have been fixed.

Latest build of DA did not help me. I'm getting rather sick of encountering this problem, I have to say... about ready to give up playing this game.

Update: I got past this problem by decommissioning a LOT of ships. Not exactly a satisfying solution, but it did the trick.

I've had a similar problem with the game freezing, after many hours of play on a large map. I just tried this: I saved the game at the freeze point and reloaded. Seems to have fixed the problem so far! Good luck!
