G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

The Score Reaper may have done his job in handling that monster score, but it was done by deletion, not by correction. What is still the unknown at this particular moment is what the new version's real scoring system is.

Anyway, enough of that! You White Council guys have pulled the old hypnosis spell and slipped by. Looks like we have to sneak up behind you and... :)

Frogboy revealed that the exponent of 0.75 was missing from the code so Cataleptic's correct score would have been 12,000 under 1.044. That's a whole lot of points for a Crippling Gigantic game. Seems like we are moving back to the 10,000 pointers under earlier versions.

Ahhh a level 1 spell. How quaint. Casts Summon Water Elemental and smacks Ray all over the place.

Awwww tsk tsk. Water elementals are good. You're love of the halfling's leaf has clearly clouded your mind.

Prot from Evil, 10' radius is Level 3. Prot from Evil is Level 1. Trying to pull a fast one over an ex-AD&D Dungeon Master, eh.

Well, I didn't think that an old Pirate King deserves the consumption of my higher magicks.

Looks like you have sold your soul to Sauron for the evil arts, eh Pontius.

Well after three tiny games I now have 5 evil wins. I formally request Senatorship. Tinys are fun. I will strive to become Very Evil, but its hard on a tiny. Tinys are every bit as challenging as the other maps, and a good start is essential. So, basically, ctrl-n. Not my way of doing things, but either do that or lose. You can't really rule an empire from one stinking planet. Hat off.

BTW, don't we want protection from good 10' radius?? We *are* the bad guys right?

Yet another idiot trying to remove all doubt about his low I.Q.

Colonize slightly inferior planets whenever possible (PQ 13 and 14) later in the game after settling down from the initial rush. I pretty much despise the Ctrl-N trick myself. I might use it on a smaller map if I am stuck in a corner, but I prefer playing it through and adjusting to the map.

As for protection spells, it is not wise for evil people to cast Protection from Evil. Instead, cast something a little more useful to the situation: Fireball the fellow evildoer. Or use Magic Missiles if you are going cheap.

I think those protection from evil things had to do with enemies in battle rather than the allignment of the castor. I wasn't all that in to that sort of thing though so maybe Ray can clarify.

Oh and congrats... Senator.

It's part of the game. I think they just put it in there out of convenience so you don't have to start over, which tons of people would do without it in there. I used to never do it. Now there are some maps that you just cannot get the start you need on Crippling and Maso. It's probably not indicative, and probably just coincidence, but it seems on the easier levels, I just plain get better maps. On the harder ones, I always get a real stinker (virtually unplayable) right out of the chute.

Summon water elemental is a good allignment spell. HEHE. But one appropriate for a person of the sea.

I used to play some of those games alot. Summon water elemental was one of my faves. That and charm.

Funny. I never got into the Dungeons and Dragons stuff, nor the card games. But once it all came out as video games, I played the video games to death. HEHE.

Hey, if there is one thing I am good at, boss, it is knowing my limits. Tough is about my limit. Challenging is my usual fare these days. I am going a bit out of style and trying a tiny map now. But, unfortunately, just because it is tiny does not mean I will finish real quick. My playing time is kind of limited, so I just got to chug along however fast as I can go.

The real reason I am going for such an unusually small map (for me, at least) is to see what kind of update will come about in the next couple of days to fix the scoring problem with the newest version. I hear good things about 1.044 in general, it is just the scoring is temporarily out of whack.

Call it a pipe dream, but I sometimes wish there was a universal score adapter for the Metaverse. Something where any game from any version can be submitted and, in real time, be scaled to what the latest standards are. Of course, all pre-existing games would already be run through such a device as the first order of business. But, alas, it is but a dream.

The White Council will take 2nd by next week.
G.R.O.S.S. will be 3rd.

Within 2 weeks:

The White Council and G.R.O.S.S will be first and second, don't know which will be which and Euro will probably be left in at fourth for a while.

Maybe another top 10 powerhouse will make it to top 3.

Just read on the noticeboard that the alignment is going to be extended to empires in the future.

Better start whipping your bunch of brigands to churn out some evil games, Pontius. We wouldn't want GROSS to be goody goody, do we? :D

There is no good and evil in this game, only power. So our posted allignment matters not. In fact, Staffa says he'll dominate all the boards. HEHE.

Well the complainers on size got their way. Now it seems the larger maps are punished. Now it seems a cheap normal alliance win on a medium map counts as much as a painful win on a Gigantic map. Hopefully with the new version that won't be the case. I can play at tough and painful. I've been dumbing the 3 goodies relative to the evils to balance out my game play. I hate games where the Yor don't have a chance even in a prime starting location and the Torians and Altarians dominate from the get go. Makes for a dull game. Also makes it wayyy too easy to pick up a cheap alliance win on goody goody. The play isn't balanced at all.
Right now I'm playing a gigantic Crippling (same iq level for all races) The Yor once again are nothing and the Altarians and Torians are dominating. Other than me of course.

Well, the top 4 empires are very close now, we have
slipped to 4th, but #1 and #2 are in stricking distance.
An improvement over all imo.

I tend to agree that the days of the current top 2 empires
are numbered.

This is a play-by-play, feel free to skip if so inclined. My last Tiny was a hoot. I started in the middle (roughly), with another yellow in my system. I immediately sent my 1st colony to the sector below, and grabbed that yellow, thinking to take the one in my sector with my 2nd ship. No such luck, the Drengin got it. I quickly stopped producing military and rushed through tech, stopping at impulse driver (transports) and corvettes. Now i tried to take the cartinoids, who were in my 2nd sector. No luck, too much population. I then took over the Drengin planet and broke the keel of my assault fleet against their SB guarding an economy resource. Over the next year or two I think 50 ships broke their keel agains that SB, raising it's level to 14, nearly indestructible against early ships.

With the Drengins reduced to two planets, and me now with 5 in 3 systems, I turned my attention towards trade. The Arceans were closest (above) so I traded with them exclusively. Meanwhile the dreaded Torian/Alterian alliance was below me. It was quite interesting as throughout the game assault fleets would cruise through my space headed towards the other guy. With everyone fighting and (somehow) leaving me alone, i focused on Dreadnaught tech which i finally achieved (took 50 turns each for battlship/dreadnaught).
I then took the Cartinoids, the Drengin SB, and another of their planets in that sector. Now the Drengins were out of the picture, having only one planet. I then culture bombed the alterians/torians, but before I could do that, the Alterians surrendered to the Arceans, and the Torians surrendered to the Drengins. This just made life easier, everyone flocked to my culture palaces and I easily took their 6 planets. At this point I had it made, the Arceans were like brothers to me, and slowly succumbed to my superior culture.

This game was the longest tiny, taking some 8 hours. I felt it was very challenging, I only got 2 trade goods developed and only had 4-5 planets for 1/2 the game. However my huge military made sure no one in their right mind would attack. This is the absolute key. Also the Arceans wouldn't form an alliance with me until I had roughly equal military, however that score was only 2200 versus the 2900 for the military conquest. At the end the Arcean home systems had 50-60 B population each, which probably helped my score. Also seemingly the amt of trade goods you get doesn't seem to matter as far as score goes (unlike Civ).

Anyway i'll probably try a larger map next time, maybe next week or something.

I'm trying a medium map right now. Very interesting. Relative to the biggies, it's still quite small and lends itself to some fighting. I neglected my usualy speed strategy in favor of massive culture. HEHE. I'm overwhelming them culturally. Except the Arceans which got all 3 culture resources (they were put right next to em) But once I get Battleships, they are toast. The Arceans won't put up a defense as they have one planet. I'll smash those bases, take em, and totally dominate. Hope it's quick enough to get me some points.
