OT: X-Men United

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this flick yet, and could answer these 3 questions:

a.) Was the movie any good?
2.) Do you think it was suitable for children to see?
d.) In descending order, rate the Fabulous Babes in the movie. :d

1. The movie was good, but not amazing. Better than the first X-men easily though, IMO.

2. I'd personally say I'd have no problem with kids about, oh, 10 and over or so seeing that movie. There's violence, but the gore factor was pretty mild.

3. I personally think the actress who plays Jean Grey puts the rest of them to shame...but Halle Berry isn't chopped liver either. Rebecca Stamos does nothing for me when she's all covered in blue and looking all freaky-deaky...but she does have a quick scene where she looks normal (no spoilers) and of course therefore looks great.

Hm. Well, let me answer the questions in order.

1) Was the movie any good?

That depends. Do you like shallow, overacted, relatively plotless and deus ex machina special-effects extravaganzas? If you answered yes, this movie is for you! Or if you are under the age of say 14. If you'd like something with some substance that you won't quickly forget, a summer movie with more than just flashy computer animations and melodramatic interactions between characters (like when Storm and Nightcrawler have the lovy-dovy discussion of faith vs. anger . . . I was about to be sick), I suggest you see something else.

Although the reviews for it are generally positive, I would caution you about listening to them. Remember that the critics have to accurately predict how much the public will like a movie at least sometimes, or they lose their jobs. This one is a no brainer, as far as that is concerned.

If you listened to what I said in (1), the answer to question 2 should be moot, but just in case . . .

2) Do you think it was suitable for children to see?

Um . . . that's really up to you as a parent. There's a lot of people getting stabbed by Wolverine, and then there's some Wolverine getting shot and stabbed (a lot), but not much blood, cause he heals fast or something. Beyond that, most of the violence occurs off camera, it pans away before whats-his-face gets plastered. I dunno, though. The wolverine getting stabbed stuff (especially the sheer number of times he gets stuck) made even me a little queasy, and I like to think of myself as being relatively experienced in movie gore (has anyone seen Akira and other such films?). I wouldn't take anyone younger than 13 with me, which is appropriate, given the PG 13 rating.

3) No offense, but I will decline to confirm myself a sex-crazed adolescent male, and will not "rate the Fabulous Babes" in the movie.

"I personally think the actress who plays Jean Grey puts the rest of them to shame..."

Famke Jansen. Accept no sustitute... :d

1) Well, maybe it's because I'm a old comics hound from the early 80s, but I thought the film was excellently done. I'm not looking for the English Patient, merely a good comic rendered on film and it succeeds well at that.

2) Hmm... kids, tougher question. Personally, I would have to say that children under 13 are probably best not taken to this film unless you approve of massive amounts of over the top violence. Just because there's no gore to speak of, it was quite good on the carnage scale.

3) I'll pass on three, suffice it to say the movie also has eye candy in the female department aplenty.

Famke Jansen- forgot all about her... She was pretty good.

As a whole, I really liked the movie- I think too many people will ignore it because its based on a comic book; which would be strange, because these are the same movie snobs who believe a crappy mediocre movie becomes a treatise on the human condition when its in french...

1. I found the movie to be rather good though I prefered Spiderman to this. X-men 2 was better than the first X-men though. I am a long time comic book fan though so my judgement on how a comic book movie should be is clouded by that fact. Over all it is a comic book movie, don't go expecting great drama or the like, But that said it is a really well done comic book movie.

2. I would avoid takeing children below 12 to the movie as it is rather violent.

3. I am skipping this question as it is just a matter of personal opinion after all.

a.) Was the movie any good?

Pretty good. The ending requires you to know the X-Men comic books well. I didn't but was filled in when I expressed my confusion.

2.) Do you think it was suitable for children to see?

No. Lots of violence and scared children makes this question easy for me. The scared kids in the movie will give your kids nightmares. Yes, I'm a parent and a schoolteacher.

d.) In descending order, rate the Fabulous Babes in the movie

Only one babe: Anna Paquin.

I thought it was great! I want the next one to come out already. I missed some of my fav characters (Gambit, Beast) they were mentioned in the background, but oh well maybe later.

As for kids, there's a lot of violence, not much blood. Wolverine stabs a lot of people, Pyro blows stuff up, but it's all in a comic book sort of way so yeh. Um, not for little kids, I think the PG-13 is about right.

1. I liked the movie quite a bit, and I certainly thought it was much much better than the first movie. Yeah it had a lot of action. The characters were fleshed out a bit better. Nightcrawler stole the show.

2. There was once scene involving Magneto toward the middle of the movie, where I thought it was rather borderline. I wouldn't want my kids seeing it (I dont want to spoil this for people who've not seen the movie yet. My inclination is anyone over 13 is okay...lower than that, then there will be nightmares to be had.

3. Tough choices on the babes...there were plenty

1. good, I liked it.

2. pg-13 sounds right to me too.

3. only one babe walks around mostly naked the whole movie, she gets my vote, and you know who she is...

1. It was much better then I expected it to be, and certaintly better then the first movie. Good laugh factor in several scenes, and of course more screen time for my favorite character, Mystique :)

2. The only bits not suitable for minors were some nasty Wolverine scenes, PG-13 sounds right.

3. Plenty of babes :)

I was disappointed in the first X-Men movie so if I had my choice I wouldn't go, but my wife wants to go to see Halle Berry (I think she's secretly attacted to her) ;) So, uh yeah - I'll be going. :D

the first cut of the first x-men movie was over 3 hours and a lot of executives got involved. A lot less was done this time. they also spent a whole lot more money on x-men 2.

seeing as how i work at the studio that made it i will refrain from commenting on it :)

who knows what might happen here. X2 sold 150 million in tickets over the weekend. and usually the first week is split 90% to the studio/distributor and 10% to the movies theatre (and you wondered why a large popcorn & coke would send you into debt :-( ) So it will be probably #1 tilll matrix comes out and blows everything away.
