Game crashing to desktop after 1.02.049 installed

Am I the only one having random crashes to the desktop after the new stand-alone patch? I don't know why. I have to save my game every 5 minutes just in case it crashes. Help me out.

OS: Windows XP
Video: 64MB GeForce 2 MX400
RAM: 256 PC-133
CPU: 700 MHz
