Wish list for GalCiv (or GalCiv2)

Wish list for GalCiv (or GalCiv2)

I think GalCiv is very well done in many areas. The one major complaint I have about the game is the combat, especially the ship combat. One of my favorite parts of the early MOOs was the ability to create your own ships by combining various ship sizes with various weapon and defensive systems buildouts. While there were some exploits there for those who choose to use them, I found the ship building and the ship to ship combat one of my favorite parts of those games. In fact, it made combat worthwhile. In GalCiv I avoid combat at all costs because it is so boring. If I could ask for one change, it would be ship design and combat like MOO (I want this even more than multiplayer).

Also, I'd like to know how the scoring system works....

I think they should have tactical combat on the ground with planetery invasions taking months and the possibility of an attacking force loosing control of space to the defending forces and taking serious penalties as a result and the possibility of reinforcements and such.

I would love to have a better invasion screen. The desolate brown rock crap just doesn't cut it. 150 billion souls being slaughtered on brown rocks. That's not epic, that's boring!! Maybe gigantic sky cities burning in the distance, or ships landing on the planet while said planet is ablaze. Or, even better, have it be random with a different one everytime! Please, please do something about this!

1. I really like the idea that has been mentioned in this thread
already: to have carrier ships that
can attack enemy from distance (2 or more squares away). And then you
could of course have fighters,
interceptors, bombers of different types, with different ranges,
etc...

2. You could even go further and have ships that can launch
long-range missiles (which are not reusable unlike
interceptors/bombers).

3. Also, more deep spy system, with spies having characters, their
quality improving with time and number of successfully accomplished
missions.. different specialization...

4. More sophisticated economic system, with tradeable goods and maybe
even stock exchange with stock of specific corporations, or at least
bonds issued by different empires.

5. Add the necessity of having balanced fleets, rather then the
current situation where the bigger and more expensive ships are the
best ones, with no need for support from smaller ships.

6. I'd like to be able to propose new laws in the United Planets Council.. There should be a restriction of course, like I can propose only one law in 100 turns or something like it... and the frequency could change based on how much influence my empire has.

Something I think would be interesting is the option to invade enemy starbases the way you can invade planets. Right now, the only option is to destroy the starbase and then build your own from scratch on the same spot. Being able to invade a key starbase would make it worthwhile...and would make it necessary for the AI to defend its starbases with the hordes of ships they usually produce.

How about a terraformer ship? Expensive, it's only mission is to be landed on an unoccupied planet. The ship is destroyed, the planet improves a bit.

Didn't Stars! have that? I'd use it...

Behold the Genesis Device. Look, we can do it in 6 minutes! LOL
I rather like GoblinCookie's idea for the invasion tactics. It doesn't take only one month to kill off 60 Billion sentient beings. Cities are really hard to take with traditional combat. Also, any combat should destroy improvements. Try taking a city without destroying it. Impossible. Maybe guided missiles to take out population. V-2 weapons pretty much.
I would LOVE to have carriers! I loved them with Starcraft and Empire Earth, and NOBODY go into how ineffective they were.
I always thought the players should introduce UP issues, not the automated 4 year sequence. Be able to do stuff like ban AIs from the UP. This could really open up the abilties of the UP.
