Bug Report Thread

For users who have version 1.02.49 (stand alone or from SDC) please post any problems you think are bugs here.

Note: A feature you wish the game had or a change in game play is not a bug. ;)

We're working on the Senate Crash, but in the meantime it doesn't seem to happen if you don't ever change from Imperial government. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

My "Show sector ownership" toggle on the minimap does not show, nor has it ever shown, any colours. This is for versions 1.02 and 1.03. It does show a lighter colour for (I believe) unowned sectors but the rest are always black.

Some (perhaps) pertinent info: running Win2K SP3 and using an NVidia Geforce DDR (yeah, I know :p ) video card.

I can email a screenshot if need be.

I am a newbie. I just purchased game in retail store, installed it, and updated everything I could via StarDock.
First surprise is that it updated only windowed version, not regular one. Is it supposed to be the case?

Secondly windowed version does not run. Full blown game runs just fine, but hey, it's v. 1.0.
I found FAQ on Dregnin.net suggesting to switch color depth to 16 bit. I tried that and instead of silently quiting windowed version started crashing on start. It just creates a window with black backround and "Galactic Civilization 1.3" title, and crashes.

I tried everything I could -- upgraded DirectX to 9.0a -- no luck; I thought maybe it is because of my complicated dual monitor setup -- detached second monitor -- no luck again. :((

I am running it on Athlon, 512MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce4, WinXP.

Any suggestions?

2Stardock employees: if you need more info please contact me via e-mail: pr at lapshin.net.

Found another bug.

The UP just voted to have all civs return to an Imperial government, and while the government screen seemed to indicate that I automatically went back from a Republic to an Imperial government, a few months later my senate still held an election, I won, and I still got the party bonuses associated with winning an election.

I got the invisible ship bug so i saved and then quit out to reload, but when i tried to load my saved game i just crash to desktop. Not only does my saved game crash but both auto saves crash as well. Pretty annoyed since its a huge galaxy on crippling and game is pretty far along building the terraformer now. Anyone have any thoughts

Yet another crash: I met up with the Drengin early in the game. They came on to me "we want to trade tech with you"
and on my side the box of offers was empty, on their side it had i.i.r.c. defence theory. (obviously they had all
techs I had, and then some). Naturally I clicked on 'accept' at which point the game crashed to desktop.

Actually. I'm using 1.03, but I don't see a thread for those bugs.

I'm in the end game (just myself and one other race, both sides pretty well maxed out on ships and techs) in a large universe.
I just used my second terror star for the first time and the game crashed! Not only that, the game will not reload the save I made just before declaring war a few minutes earlier (the cultural victory was going nowhere). AND it won't load either of the auto saves (set at every five moves). It will start a new game.
This raises a problem - I have just "wasted" about 15 hours (or more) and I am reluctant to make that kind of investment again (this was the reason a stopped playing Master of Magic years ago).
Besides that, I was winning by a lot and looking forward to posting my score!

Regards,

I have just discovered a strange skull and cross bones bug. I colonized a planet while at war with the Torians and they invaded it almost right away, using an attack that degraded planets, then, they destroyed the colony (I had considerable influence advantage over them) and the Planet Quality went from 14 to 13. Then I colonized it again and the skull and crossbones showed, and the planet detail said something about seeing to the culture problem because of the strong influence of Kistler's Krushers (that's me). Shouldn't the skull and crossbones and warning text in the detail view be reset when the planet is colonized the second time?

At the end of my last game, the Society Tab only showed me having 20 colonies. I tried giving away and/or destroying colonies, and the number did not change. I went ahead and pressed 'End Turn'. Still, the number did not change. Finally, I gave away all my systems but Sol. Still, the number did not change.

If you destroy a colony and then access Domestic Policy, the game crashes to the desktop.

With the latest 1.03A I am getting a huge drop in my military power curve after re-loading a saved game, even though I am not at war and have lost no ships. Is the game saving the bonuses from anomalies and starbases correctly?

Negative / Infinite population bug I've found:
(Using 1.02.24.x)

I invade a Drenigan planet, and based on the odds, I will lose if I pick conventional warfare. I select Information Warfare and win the fight. But when I look at the planet, it's population is -900 million. When I go to the planet's screen, it has trillions or quadrillions of people. When I advance the turn, the population becomes 100 billion.

I have caused this bug several times in a single game. Nice way to get huge population, but morale is hard to manage with that many people. :p

Two things:
One is that stardock central reinstallation installs in a different directory from what I had installed the game first time (I have 1.02 on D: drive, and 1.03 on C: drive).
Second: A gigantic game which crashes on open. Last three saves all crash. Here is a debug.err extract:

Version 1.03A.057: I got lucky and the I-League popped up near me with only three systems. I captured them fairly quickly, and got the appropriate blurb about them being destroyed.

For many more turns, through the end of the game, I still got messages about several Drengin systems joining the I-League. Sure enough, several of their former systems had indeed done so. The I-League didn't show up in the minor races tab, since it was "destroyed".

I do believe this qualifies as a "bug". :)

LotC: Yes I would like a screenshot.

llirik: the non-windowed version is the most up to date. If your version number isn't showing up correctly you may have to select refresh application data.

Peter: do you have any mods installed?

LDiCesare: did you check to see if your install directory had gotten reset in sdc?

For those of you getting the crashes loading save games, if you have access to the 1.04 beta, it should let you load your save games.

The information warfare bug is already on my list. So is the I-League bug.

Running 1.03A.057

My combat transport icons are missing. There still exist. However, they seem to be invisible. First time this has ever happened. I saved the game and reloaded it. Still can't see 'em.

Cari, I don't know where to check the install directory in sdc... It is not readily apparent. Btw, the download times shown by sdc should convert minutes into hours when you get 455minutes... it's painful to divide by 60.

Minor issue in 1.03A.057 (if it matters, the installation results from a "download/archive/restore" of that build, the Bonus Pack, et al):

An alliance victory still shows the Galactic Alliance movie, but the overview text following it corresponds to a cultural victory.

Crash in 1.04 Beta:

If you have 100+ colonies each cranking out improvements or constructors in a single turn, the Info-Net list on the right side of the main interface becomes garbled.
If you try to delete the Info-Net messages using Ctrl+Shift and click, Galciv crashes.

FATAL CRASH playing on a gigantic galactic map. For some reason it will not keep going, I upgrade a starbase and right afterward it crashes. If I choose not to upgrade the SB it still crashes without showing anything as to the reason why. This is a real bummer my first Gigantic game, that was going extremely well bombs to where I cannot recover. :sniff!:

With 1.03 I have noticed some rather odd things. Whenever I reload after I quit, the amount of time (turns) it takes to reach the next tech is doubled. My influence is lower for some reason as well.
A rebellion gave me a minor race world that had 4 turns to finish a political capitol. I just let it go and even though I had built this the very next turn, it allowed this on colony to finish and adding in extra influence. Not sure how much but it was more then before. :notsure:
The income in some games does not seem to add up correctly. Building some improvements did nothing to my income for that colony when the improvement was for income. The wierd part it is not all games just on the Hugh or bigger ones. I am running a brand new P4 2.53 and the GE-FORCE 4 4200 vid card, 512MB of ram. Previous to this the game crashed several times for no good reason I could tell. I could reload and continue not that big a deal. I sure hope you can correct this soon I might go back to 1.02 much more stable it seems. :notsure: :d Hope this helps locate the bugs. :)

1.03.057:

If you make peace with a civ you are at war with when one or more of their transports are less than one turn away from an undefended system of yours and were heading towards it, on the next turn the transport will invade the system anyway, starting the war again. This can be quite annoying if you just paid a king's ransom to get that peace...

In 1.03A.057, if you ally with a minor race and then try to attack it, though the game tells you you must break alliance, you won't be able to.

Apologies if this has already been reported.

What does a person do when his turn but sticks. I have the 103a version, and it still won't work right?
