Some interesting formulaes

Ok, for those who are as math freaks as i am (I'm studying maths to become a teacher :)), here are some formulaes.

Research bonus : For those who want to take a technological lead, here's how you calculate how much more research you're doing for your buck.

Bonus = 3 * (Bonus + 1)/(Bonus + 3)... So if you're taking Technologists + 50% research, you'll be doing 37% more(1.37) research then what you pay for. Of course, that's far then the +70% would let you believe.

Here's how to calculate the efficienty of the bonus: 2/(Bonus + 3)

So again, with Technologists + 50% research, you get a 54% efficienty (.37/.7)

Want to know if it's worth having those production bonuses versus the upkeep... Well, the gain will be as follow: (Base money invested in social + military) * bonus/3.

So if you built a fusion power plant (+20% production, 2 bc upkeep), you have to be spending 30Bcs in (military + social) spending.

Ok, enough for now. It is 2:30 in the morning.

Have fun.

If you have a planet that has an income of 10 BC and you are dividing your production half and half between military and social, then you have 5 military and 5 social. A 20% production increase should hopefully yield 6 and 6, right?

Using your formula, this would be: ((5+5) * 0.20)/3 = 2/3 gain, right?

But the actual *expected* gain would be ((5+5) * 0.20) - upkeep of 1 = 2-1 = a gain of 1 BC.

I'm not disputing your formula. But I am saying that they seem counter-intuitive.

They are counter-intuitive, yes. But that's because the game's economy is a little complex.

You have to pay for alot of the extra units you get. Only a set percentage are given free.

Also always remember that a "50% bonus" doesn't increase your current production by 50%. Those 50% are just added with the prior bonus, then it multiples the base production for the planet. So if you already HAVE 200% bonus, then an extra 50% bonus is in reality only taking your multiplier from 3.0 to 3.5, or a measly 15% more than what you already had (and you have to pay for the extra as well).

The economy isn't simple. You definitely can't just build everything everywhere and expect things to work out.
