Can't download latest versions through StarDock Central

Hi - I'm trying to upgrade GalCiv to v1.21.099 and it's multimedia to 1.0.016, but every time I try to through StarDock Central I get errors having to do with "Invalid Chunk Data" and then I get either (548:563) for GalCiv or (4040: 65537) for the multimedia. Looking at the log doesn't help other than to provide the file names on which it's choking: Base\Data\bonusmodules.sbmodul_ and Mod_Multimedia\Event Music\DISC.MP_ respectively.

I did a manual download, but that only updated GalCiv to 1.20.086. I can't seem to find a place to manually download the patches any other way.

Suggestion for the folks that run this site - please create a top-level menu item named Patches (or make it part of Downloads) so that we can manually download, and include archived versions. Also, PLEASE include somewhere a Support or Contact button. I bought the game in a store, and it's unheard of for packaged software to not have any contact info! Thanks!

P.S. This is just GalCiv, not Altarian Prophecy. I have not bought that expansion, and probably won't for some time.

First, do you have the latest version of Stardock Central?

Second, as I understand it, they are working on the stand-alone patch as we speak, which incidently will be found in downloads.

Third, contact is on the left at very bottom of page. Or you could go to Stardock.com and access contact from there.

Yup, I have the latest version - there isn't any other option since as soon as you load it, it updates itself.

I look forward to the patch.

I missed the contact button down there, which is just a mailto. I'll try it and see if it helps.

Thanks!

TCanty: It sounds like you are some how not using the latest version of SDC:

As for the patch there is a delay between when the patch shows up on SDC and when it is put up on this site. There is a download section, and the patch is the first entry.

Eamerial: What happens exactly when it dies? Is there a long delay and then it stops? If you press cancel before it dies and then start the install again, does it get past where it stops?

Hi :)

Thanks for the replies... it seems that my proxy server was having some problems yesterday and it hanged in long files or slightly longer communications. It was a false alarm... I just paniked ;p

I already installed Gal Civ :CONGRAT:

thank you

Well, I can't quite explain it, but it appears that the problem was indeed the version of StarDock Central. When I clicked on Help->About, it definitely showed version 2.0, but it must have been a lie. I manually downloaded the current SDC, and it shows a slightly newer version of 2.0, and it has a different look to it. This version successfully downloaded the software, so I'm fine now. But what this means is that the auto-update feature of SDC does not properly update SDC to the latest version. Granted, it had been something like 7 months since I last used SDC, but it still should have handled it. Anyway, all is well now. Thanks! -Tom
