Easier to build than destroy

One aspect of the present version of the game that drives me nuts is the warped reality that results in the ability to build a spaceship faster than it takes for one to be destroyed. Obviously, this isn't always the case, based on what sort of carnage is going on but it still ruins whatever tiny bit of immersion that exists that these are real empires going at each other rather than spawning Space Invaders that just keep regenerating as long as the cash holds out.

It makes the game a wearying experience to keep piling guys into a battle hot off the assembly line while the enemy does the same.

I wouldn't suggest making the destruction time faster but rather making the build time a lot slower or at least making that a gameplay option. (It would certainly put a lot more value into putting multiple frigate factories in a system since as it is right now I can just crank out vessels from all corners of the galaxy and rendezvous at whatever the current hot spot is.)

Increased build times might be a way to reward larger empires too, since they could use their increased logistics points to build more frigate and capitol ship factories which would give them full efficiency as opposed to resource structures which give diminishing returns with size. This would mean in a duel with a smaller empire, the larger one might actually have an advantage of being able to replace its losses, whereas now a larger empire doesnt really have much going for it once a certain resource threshold is passed.

What I find even worse is that you can build defense platforms faster than they can destroy them. I typically do not have any problems with pirates because I just mass build platforms at whatever planet they arrive at. You would think that the AI was smart enough to destroy the construction frigates, but it is not.

you have a point but when your building a craft, the craft doesn't resist it

Fight it out with the guys who say defense is too underpowered.

TWO MEN ENTER. ONE MAN LEAVES.

Yea I agree this is a major issue. Since there is a maximum number of ships you can have, then once any empire reaches a certain point it doesn't really matter how many planets you have since everyone can be maxed out on ships. So they should at least have the advantage of being able re-create their fleet faster with all their extra logistics points. The fact that ships can be made faster than they can be destroyed is a bit unrealistic no matter how far in the future this is.

Sounds like that world war 2 battle... erm... Stalingrad was it? Both sides pouring in new units every 10 seconds while not gaining any ground.

A temporary fix I can recommend is a sacrificial fleet made up of carrier craft (really cheap if you're Advent) jumping to his main dockyards and blowing up the frigate facilities. It is to my knowledge that a fleet of 10 carriers should make short work of it, and then be able to jump back out with small-ish losses.

It would cost him more in the long run than it would cost you. Not the price, but the time. It could also be a diversionary measure with an actual purpose.

edit: OH! I forgot to mention. One of the things I enjoy doing is moving my production facilities up. So, each time I take a world, I sell off all my old production facilities and build 3 frigate facilities and one capital ship facility on a newly populated world. It might help if your opponent doesn't have the same level of reinforcement. This is a good strategy for uber rich TEC.
