Blank screen and hung system when starting GalCiv.

I only got this once, but I wanted to record the event, just in case someone else gets it. I don't know how to capture
error data on this one.

I pushed the "play" button on the DGM and got the blank screen of death. I let it sit there for a couple of minutes
before trying to get any responses from it. Nothing worked. I tried CTRL-ESC and CAD - nothing. Only the 10second BRS
would work, which of course powered down my system and let me get a power on startup with the disk check Windows does.

I don't know if this will ever happen again, but here is the report, just in case.

Cheers,
Jack

I've never had my system hang when GalCiv boots up, but I have noticed a growing pause that occurs at the games' start. We'll keep an eye open for system crashes, but as for that pause we're thinking of putting some sort of pretty graphic to tide the users over while waiting for the game to load.

ps. Thanks for the comments on the sounds, Jack. I've been overseeing that side of things, and the team appreciates any positive feedback we can get! :D

It probably has something to do with running in through the DGM...or maybe if there were read only files in your directory?

Cari,

We are all having to run GalCiv through the DGM until the install of GC starts adding
the shortcut to the desktop "start" chain (start-> programs-> DGM -> GC ... or whatever).

I have serious doubts about the possibility of it being because of read only files:
1). If the problem was with read only files why would it fail only once.
2). If GalCiv was trying to update a read only file, why would I not get a message
from Windows? (Perhaps, seeing as it is Windows, not OS/2 maybe this question has a
very obvious answer. :d )

Anyway, at this point, this may be one problem that should be just put onto a back
burner while more important matters are taken care of. I just wanted to record the
problem as having occured so I didn't forget to if/when it became a serious issue.

Cheers,
Jack
