Don’t Kill Harry

I don’t know what she is thinking, J.K. Rowling. How could she possibly think of ending Harry Potter’s life? Does she not think of the repercussions? Does not see how many children love this character?

She’s writing the last book in the series and has mentioned that a well-known and liked character will likely be killed. That’s sent uproar amongst the legions of fans that do enjoy the books and also the movies.

Recently, Authors, Stephen King and John Irving have asked her not to kill the famous character.

I don’t know why she would think to do that. It seems to me that each time another book in the series is to come out there’s some kind of controversy surrounding it. I think all in the name of getting fans ‘whipped into a frenzy’ about her work.

This to me though is unnecessary because her books are well loved. But then again, all this attention makes for more sales doesn’t it?!

Stephen King has a lot of room to talk.  Not many of his main characters make it to the end.

I hope Harry makes it. Maybe she's just trying to keep it from being too formula. The formula ending would be that Harry defeats/kills Voldemort and lives happily ever after. We'll have to wait and see what she comes up with.

I think I read in a interview she done that she had it all laid out in her mind before she even had one Harry Potter book published. How many books in the series she wanted and the fate of Harry in the last book.

So now maybe she's torn between sticking with her original plan or changing it just for fans' sake.

Well this is what we want! She should give her audience what they want. That would be a good way to end it. Yeah, we have no choice but to wait!

I like the idea that she will bring the series to an end. So many authors these days keep bringing the formula characters back long after the quality ideas for them have ended. How much pressure from fans and the publisher would come to bear on her if she left Harry around. Just one more book. What about Harry as an adult? What about Harry's kids? Harry takes over Hogwarts? The new Harry Potter kids! It would never end. Even if JKR managed to resist, someone somewhere would write it, even if just as unauthorized fan fiction.

Let it come to a conclusion and stand as a great set before it gets too watered down. The surest way to do that is to let Harry die, so if he does, I'm OK with it.

I think Good Stories are better for kids than Happy Endings.

Now, a Good Story can have a Happy Ending, but it doesn't necessarily need one.

If Rowling sells out a Good Story by catering to the Happy Ending fans, it will make me sad.

I hope that she stays true to the Good Story she's written so far and gives it the right ending (Happy or Sad), rather than a "popular" ending.

Oh I think it would be a huge mistake to kill off the main character,  Harry Potter,  so soon if at all.

I can't imagine killing off any of the main characters!  I keep meaning to read the books,  have only seen 2 of the movies,  love em!

I hope she write it the way it was intended. I want him to live, but why should she give the fans what they want? She is the writer. Anyway, she isn't killing off the character... the progression of the story is. It might not even be Harry. Why is everyone so up in arms about it? It's a book...

Hank I agree with this. Except I too don't want to see the character killed off. I do understand what you're saying and you're right; however, killing Harry doesn't have to make it be that way. She could just send him off somewhere. Kids can just use there imagination.

I hope she does too. Despite what I and others who want a good ending feels, we wouldn't want her to compromise on an ending that befits the stories she has told.

Anyway, she isn't killing off the character... the progression of the story is


We know it is ending Jythier. But she did hint, make that, a major announcement that a main character will be killed. Naturally everyone would think, Harry. It's just the smoke screen into getting more air time. No one is up in arms, just overly excited. People do get attached to anything they've grown to enjoy and love. That's a natural progression!! Look at Stephen King and John Irving begging her to spare Harry. Now if that's not publicity, I don't know what else is.

I think she should write it exactly as she intended, not as the fans insist. Writing is art and it's up to the artist to determine how it comes out.

But I do agree that much of it is just a means of stirring up some extra sales.

We were just talking about this the other day at work. We will be sad when the story is over no matter what, so she may as well go with her original plan. She had given us one hell of a ride.

Hehhe, OK, that's the general consensus! Die, Harry, die! OK, I won't let it sound so bad. Let's face it she will do what she wants, as she should. Just that she should take into effect the after effects. Although it's just a fictional character but you know how that goes!
