My Vista works perfectly. I'm running an AMD 64 bit processor, but d/led the 32 bit version. I have had no problems thus far. The only one problem is sluggishness while running a lot of processes, and one game does not display correctly. Do you think the 64 bit version will make it run smoother?

You'll find it alot more difficult to run 64bit Vista at the moment because there are few drivers and apps supporting it. Perticulary with the drivers. With 32bit Vista you can still run XP drivers in legacy mode, while 64bit Vista requires verified 64bit Vista drivers. But a 64bit Vista would be more stable.
It will generally be a little sluggish as MS hasn't yet fully got around to optimize Vista for speed. And most things also is compiled in debug mode so that adds extra sluggishness as well.

Finally, after nearly 24 hours d/ling, I've got it...but my ISP's gonna get a right royal bollocking on Monday morning. I'm suppopsed to be on a 1.5mb connection, but when d/l speeds never rose above 35kbs/per sec and dropped to just 9kbs frequently, it's obvious that I'm on a lot less (256kb) after an interruption to service early last Wednesday.

Oh well, I've got it now, it checks out a-okay, so I'll burn it to disk shortly and install it on a partition I've prepared on another drive.

I can't think what the problem is..

Unfortunately, I saw in other posts with that same error code (which I am sure you have already googled) that the only fix was a redownload and burn on slowest speed.

You might give it a go.

I suggest everyone do what #32 says. Check the crc dealy. I checked it the first time I downloaded, and when it was off, I realized the file hadn't downloaded completely.

Got the same message...I clicked "Use your own download manager" and its downloading now...though will take over 6 hours to dload and thats with 6 mbit/second broadband connection

Meowy I'm wondering if you'd be able to help me with some easy to follow burning instuctions....seeing as you're the only one I know of who's been successful in installing it.

I got the d/load okay and the checksum added up, but burning it to disk has been a problem. My first attempt went awry, burnt it and set BIOS to boot from disk but machine kept booting into XP as normal...then it dawned on me that it wasn't a bootable one, so set about creating a bootable disk....

Did that 4 times...twice it came out corrupted/unreadable, and twice it still came out as non-booting, with Windows not being able to read the data when opening from 'My Computer'. Isobuster keeps saying it cannot open unless I purchase (not an option at this time), and WinImage was not helpful either...hence I am unable to install Vista from my drive either.

It's probably something quite simple that I'm missing/doing wrong, but I can't see it and would appreciate some assistance....

I tried making a bootable disk using Nero, but it says that it cannot create one as the file exceeds 2gb....so I have been trying CDBurnerXP Pro 3 without success. I selected the bootable options when setting up the burn, but whether I need to add any other files or not it doesn't say, and if so, what they are, etc.

Geez, I feel like a right royal clutz (it's probably something so simple and staring me right in the face), but then I'm not the computer savvy so an easy heads up would be greatly appreciated. Don't want the bin under my desk full of (expensive) mini frisbees

Look, go hereLinkand download the DAP and go under the tab of your own d\l manager and it worked for me like a charm and it goes a helluva lot faster than the MS's manager, DAP will (i think) work for all browsers and will accept any download regardless of the type (ISO, WinRaR archive, Zip, etc.)Link

Meowey,just checked the help file and it will burn a ISO file no matter the size. The only restriction is the size of the disk.

To save space, try compressing it using WinRar, Avaliable here > Link
It can make a SOLID ARCHIVE which will auto decompress when it is ran and does not need WinRaR to run.

Yes if you think I don't have a life, I typed these last three posts in a span of about 3 minutes thanks to the fact i gotta good computer.

I got all these things i mentioned in the last three posts and used them multiple times.

P.S. ONLY USE BLAZE MEDIA PRO AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE, my CD Drive stopped working after burning 2 CD's with it but the drive was about oh, 2 yrs old so if couldve just gone bad (wips out wrench)

I had no probs with downloading the ISO file......no probs with putting it on disk and it installed perfectly.I have to say that Vista is plenty big on eye candy and for a beta it is very stable.I havent had any probs with it as yet.The only issues i have had are with drivers for onboard sound for the mother board....other than that i am impressed with what i see with vista.Dont know what other probs i may have untill i put on some apps.

I tried making a bootable disk using Nero

You can use Nero if you want:

1 - Start Nero Burning ROM

2 - Select "No Multisession" > New button.

3 - Click Recorder menu > select the recorder.

4 - Place DVD-R in drive.

5 - Click Recorder menu > Burn Image > select the downloaded ISO image > click "Open" button.

6 - Select the option to Finalize Disc.

7 - Set to lowest speed for burning (usually 2.4X).

8 - Burn disc.

This worked great for me (twice).

I found Ultra ISO to be a good prog to use....as Wizop Corky O says...burn it at the slowest speed.....it will work like a charm

I just got the file, after 28 hours of downloading. At least it didn't take 10 days like on a dial-up connection. I have 256kb DSL and I still like how fast it downloads things compared to Dial-up. I also checked the file using the MD5 hash and it checked out on that. On to partitioning the drive and installing Vista.

GOT IT....burnt it using Nero burning rom....and it works Woo Hoo, Woo Hoo.

Thanks to all who offered advice/help, it is much appreciated....seems when the first burn failed to produce the desired result, I looked unnecessarily to complicated solutions and wasted a few more discs. Wow, it couldn't have been easier....and my feeling like a putz has risen markedly, but I'm happy.

Using UltraISO, I think, made a difference....thanks, Studibaker...and using Nero also simplified matters (being more familiar with it), so thanks to Corky also.

Now I'm off to install it

Installation went like a dream (only hiccups were mine ) and I'm running it right now

Wow, and what a difference to XP, with its slick graphics and GUI. Very nice indeed, tho I wonder how long it is before I tire of it and want WB's and etc on it.

However, apart from the GUI changes, there's quite a few under the hood as well, so I'm off to investigate/explore them all. Oh how I love new toys....cya's all when I'm done

There's just no pleasing some people! Seems to me, Microsoft went to a great deal of effort to replace the 'Fisher Price' look of XP....and then, its not truly appreciated.

Given how long it took me to customize after upgrading from 98se to XP, however, I reckon it'll only be a day or three with me as well. Still, Vista has a nice feel about it and has some under the hood improvements I quite like, so yeah, I'm impressed with the beta.....roll on the final release
