Slow/Laggy mouse on secondary computer with Multiplicity

I've been using Multiplicity for a while now (used an earlier version years ago too) and I've noticed that the mouse get's quite slow and laggy while on the secondary computer. Not always, but every now and then the mouse will trail behind my movements by a second or two. It's really annoying while dragging something on the screen such as desktop icons or files between folders. I noticed that when I have notepad open, the mouse gets sluggish when I move over the notepad window even if It's not the window in focus and I'm not interacting with Notepad in any way, just passing across it to another window.

Both computers I'm using Multiplicity on are right next to my router and are connected via a LAN connection. I have Verizon FIOS and have tested my network latency and found that it is very low. I do have clipboard sharing disabled within Multiplicity, but that doesn't seem to affect anything.

When this software runs normally it's great, but these periodic slow downs are driving me crazy.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had a lag in my mouse movement on my 2nd PC. I am using a Razer gaming mouse, so I tried to lower the DPI and polling rate, and it wasn't helping much.

Then, I found that if I quit the Razer Synapse app on my 2nd PC, the lag is gone. And I can set my polling rate to 1,000 and DPI at 1,600 still no lag.

Hope this helps other with similar situation as me.

I am having a similar issue, but I don't have a gaming mouse.

I see this happen most when a large amount of data is synced by my Dropbox, and then even after it has completed and the PC is back to normal, the mouse is still jittery and I can only fix it with a reboot.

Which would indicate that there is still a lot of network traffic or one \ both of the PCs are getting crushed (CPU usage).

What you might try is restarting the MP process on Secondary then Primary:

Interesting, I am using a gaming mouse. My default DPI is 3200 and polling rate of 1000. Leaving the DPI as 3200 and turning the polling rate down to 125 was the only way to resolve it. Is there any other way to resolve it beside turning down the polling rate?

OMG. Thanks for this tip! The lag has been driving me nuts for a year or so. I have a Deathadder Pro v2, and the minute I dropped the polling down to 125hz, the lag went away. I've been working without Multiplicity for at least 6-8 months and had chalked it up to something with my work laptop. Got a new one and decided to try it again but had the same issue. Now I don't!

If this helps anybody, I finally figured out what my issue was. It didn't have to do with Multiplicity at all. It had to do with Windows Slideshow Wallpapers on the primary PC. I run my wallpapers out of Microsoft One Drive, so that I could use the same wallpapers on multiple PCs and update them across the board whenever I want just by adding images to that OneDrive folder. However, on my PC, I set OneDrive up to run out of a different drive. It turns out that Windows doesn't like pulling the Wallpaper off a different drive and will lag and beep as it transitions between wallpapers. I moved my OneDrive install to the C Drive of that computer, and haven't had the issue since. I didn't notice this issue as I rarely have my windows closed to see my desktop, and when everything got laggy I couldn't exactly close any windows or minimize them until it ended. Also, I typically use my second screen for work, which is why every time I've experienced the issue I was controlling the other screen and felt that it was Multiplicity causing the issue.

So in summary. Check your wallpapers, ensure they're on the C Drive of your windows install and if you use OneDrive as I did, set that folder to always keep files offline so they download.

I was looking for a solution for 2nd screen lag. I replaced my Razer mini viper with a standard Bluetooth mouse. It is working well now. no more lagging on the second screen. Thank you

It has to do with the very high DPI polling rate for gaming mice like that.

Thanks to this discussion, I was able to reduce my polling rate to fix the problem. I was using a Logitech G403 at the time. I dropped it from 1000 to 500 and it started working.

I recently upgraded my mouse to the G502 X and it lagged again so I dropped it from 500 to 250. I was good for a while but now I'm all the way down to 125. What worries me is that for the most part it will be fine but then it will start to lag even though I am already down to 125 (and there isn't a lower option).

My primary pc is on ethernet but the secondary is on wifi. That said, I have gigabit internet and good hardware so even my wifi is above 500 Mbps.

I completely rely on Multiplicity to use my personal computer and work computer simultaneously with my 3 monitors so I really hope this mouse issues doesn't get worse. I was kind of hoping there would be an update that fixed it by now but maybe it isn't something that can be fixed.

The problem with wifi is the connection isn't entirely reliable which can introduce more latency if packets get delayed and need resends. High polling rates will make this far worse.

If you are having issues on a standard 125Hz setup then I would check nothing has changed which is causing interference on your wifi.
