I really like the new version. The way the AI act and build fleets is a really big step forward and makes a lot of fun to play.
One think I found yesterday was a colony ship of an other faction that's goes a couple of field forward and backward and forward and so on. It does this next to a 14tile World which was colonizable and only 4 fields away from it. It was easy for me to colonize it as I was 40 fields away from... I think that's not the way the should work it.
