Crusades 2.71 stuck on waiting in Multiplayer, then refuses to load

A friend and I were playing multiplayer, around 200 turns in

game became stuck on "waiting"

he and I restarted game, and now everytime I try to connect to his lobby with the last 2 autosaves, it says host disconnected.
