I'd like to put in all the Star War, Star Trek, and Babylon 5 music as well as keeping the existing music in the game. Can this be done. I ask because your description implies that we would have to over write the existing files.
Oh, you`re asking for too much now. I just figured this on my own, but I can`t do advanced stuff. All I can do is overwrite with the custom music. I have no idea at all how to add extra music while keeping the original. You`ll have to directly ask the Devs that one or someone who knows how to make a program that would enable that
Seafire would you or someone here please write the format or name that will get the music to play in game? I just want to play randomly as much as possible but still have the default music play for events like war, anger, trades ect.
Thanks in advance, very much!
I added like 30 files and I am happy to rename all of them, I just need t know what to rename them.
First, always make a COPY of the GC3 Music Folder so you don`t mess anything up before you start- if you do it wrong. That`s my second warning. It`s easy, but if you know nothing about folders in games, perhaps it isn`t. BACK UP.
Ok, well, if you look at the music file in the Gal civ 3 folder, then right click on any Gal Civ music file, like, `GalCiv3_ALongTwilight`, then right mouse button click it, you`ll see a list of options and at the bottom is `properties`, click that and you`ll see the type of music file. It will say, `MP3 Format Sound (.mp3)`. That`s the format the music will play in Gal civ3. Kind of like the `language` the game will recognise. Your own music must be in this format.
Look at the `properties` of the music you have that you wish to play. Is it also `mp3`? Or something else? If not mp3 you need to change it to mp3. You can use utilities like Audacity which you can get free.
Once that is done, you must change the name of your custom music file to the name in the Gal civ 3 folder. For instance, your music might be called `The Hills are alive!`, but you will change it to something from the game like, `GalCiv3_ALongTwilight` or `GalCiv3_EarlyGameTheme_5` or `GC3_Defeat.1`. There are about 30 names to choose from, check them out. It has to be changed to a name in the game music Folder.
You have to do it that way or it won`t work.
You cannot play a bunch of music randomly. You must pick, rename and replace the music. Until someone makes a special utility it isn`t possible. However, if you replace every file in the Music Folder with yours you will hear the music at some point or other- As long as you change the names of your music to its names...
If you really can`t figure it out then I would advise wait until someone does a `How To` on Utube, althought there isn`t one yet. People don`t seem to want to tell how it`s done, so I figured it out for myself. But if you can`t figure it out wait for someone else who can explain better than me with pictures. Good luck.
