I have only started playing with v1.0 but wanted to give some feedback to the team in case hits is helpful in the future DEV process
Overall impression: Having known GC2, v1.0 of GC3 still feels like a buffed, modern version of it which is good but in some cases it feels like a beta (glitches, CTD) and alpha (missing features compared to GC2 and seeing their places). Though the game is fun due to the first it broke down frequently on my first two plays
CTD:
- When two enemy fleets attacked my planet in the same enemy turn (I kinda saw this as a listed issue to be fixed in Patch 1 but does now necessarily seem to fit the description there, here is what happens:
- Two attack produce 4 screens
- Each screen shows the same values which seem wrong ad the attackers power is less then 50% of that of the defenders yet the chances for invasion successes 100% with low casualties for the attacker
- After the fourth screen a fifth appears with the below message and freezes the game to a crash: "Waiting for other player"
- Detached a shipyard and tried to move it caused freeze then CTD
Glitches:
- Minimap does not show currently viewed section of space and reverts to the default view after each turn if the player changes it
- Icon of planet Earth in the Colonies list is often displayed wrongly. The planet is gone and the whole place for the icon seem to be filled by some cloudy layer
- Move points left is sometimes displayed for ships but in some cases not, it is mostly listed in the bottom menu but not if the ships are grouped to a fleet. Often the move count of a fleet is only visible in the detailed report menu of the fleet.
- Hit points of individual ships is not always listed in the ship overview tab only in detailed report and the total sum of hit points in case of fleets. Saw this last time after upgrading a ship in a fleet
- Battleviewer top down camera view does not show the ships as they float outside the view angle - saw this one in the Patch list so should be resolved I guess with the next patch
- Can see the border of an empire on the edge of the map even if not discovered yet
- Just a small issue for tech tree I found is that the lines connecting the projects sometimes run right on the separation line of the ages and it is not visible this way which tech comes from which tech (need to check this in the tech description)
- Both the basic farm and factory is listed as build able on newly conquered planets but only the basic version can be built (I guess only the updated version should be available so these are probably two separate issues)
- Shield enhancement contains the same benefit twice (Shield Strength +15%)
- Can select enemy ship guarding enemy planet for upgrade (options are greyed out though)
- Launching transport from shipyard warning: "No planets transport launched empty" but the transport is not empty as it has been loaded with troops before it was sent to the yard so the message is incorrect
- Saving a ship design with the same name creates a new design with the same name instead of overwriting the original one
- In UN elections my enemy constantly votes for me (everyone else votes for themselves me included) but even so we loose the elections to another race that should have less votes as the two of us combined so either he didn't actually vote for me (which makes sense as we are enemies) or the counter is broken
Missing features (These are mostly things that seem that they should be there but missing from some reason, maybe for an expansion will list then anyway so I get these out of my system
)
- No shield icon for Star-bases and shipyards in the menu, though it appears on the main map and the list is structured identically to colonies
- Crew is displayed in the data sheet of ships but doesn't seem to have affect - maybe has something to do with the missing XP function of ships from GC2?
- Ships list does not have any sub-menu for fleets, transports, defenders, size or other. Seems logical to the structure of the menu and after the player has more then 20 ships the list is difficult to use without such filters
- Notifications categories just like above to sort them according to ships, buildings, enemy actions etc..
- Strategic resources not visible in planet building screen although some structures need these resources. The menu is always visible in the ship designer and on the main map
- Cannot select ships for details in fleet report mode although the same works in battle viewer
- Cannot scroll the battle report with mouse wheel only with the very thin bar on the right hand side while there is a lot of unused free space on both sides of it
That is all I have so far, I hope it will help ironing some things out. Regardless of the above I truly enjoyed the game so far and am waiting for the patch to fix the invasion CTD so I can continue the game.
As for the future: I have heard that star-bases will get some love which is great because I love them and please consider giving fleets some more weight like the total war series did with armies. Maybe implement the XP system back in combination with crews and fleets. The game seems to have a lot of emphasis now on fleet tactics might as well give it more flavor and weight
