Hi all,
First I will say that in its current state, the game is ok and has a lot of potential. I really like what has been done with the resources and the tech tree seems quite good (I did not go very far inside yet).
First game: ocasional habitable planets, medium galaxy size: after 25 turn I found no habitable planets outside my solar system. cheat fov -> there was no habitable planets in my reach, oponnent had all a few solar system already colonised. I stopped here... This is not a big issue, as a understand that random map can be unfair but it make for a bad game experience (I know I should have taken this as a challenge and use starbase or extended life support but I did not even know if there was some planets out there
)
Second game, as the krynn, medium size, common habitable planets (started on beta 6 and updated on beta 6.1 early on). Now there was lots of habitable planets (I got about 10 for myself). This makes the krynn hability (2x colony ship population) very powerful. despite that, I only got a few ideology bonus and constructing the pragmatic temple did not help much (0.1 point per turn is really low). Maybe ideology cost should scale with the number of habitable planets on the map? (Not everyone play on gigantic maps). In general, I found this game very easy even through I made the AI "gifted" (I am currently at turn 90 but I have but won a cultural victory and I could destroy my oponents if needed) and this is the main issue for me today (with the influence inbalance (only inbalanced due to the AI inabilities to use cultural building) issue below) which prevent me from really enjoying the game. I had very low research and no military at all for most of the game but oponent have be happy to trade or even give me tech, especially military ones. And once I attacked, oponents had nearly no ships.
issues:
* "pragmatic ideology temple" did not give its defensive bonus or display is incorrect
* in beta 6.1, In one case, IA still colonized a planet (class 4) in the middle of my influence (home system)
* IA does not defend itself against culture flip. they get high approval on the planet which help the resistance but they don't build any influence improvement. Just building one or two would make them too costly to flip but for some reason they don't even try... And I don't know if it is expected but once flipped, the planet don't have any building on it? And in some case I cannot use the terraforming tech (already used by oponent?)
* Terran faction is shown as 1st in influence even through I have more than half the galaxy under my influence (much more than they)
* Cultural building adjacency bonus seems too strong, especially the krynn temple. getting +1 influence (and +1 moral) for any influence or approval adjacency bonus is enormous. Compared to production and research building where adjacency bonus represent something like 25% of they base benefit, the influence building provide 100% of there base benefit...
* starbase influence does not show in the influence tooltip of the hex
* starbase production and research component seems very weak, providing less than half the benefit of an equivalent building. moral on the other hand provide has much benefit as a full building.
* shipyard power no shown on prebattle screen
* my ship were doing +1 damage compared to their damage rating (like 8 beam power and doing 9 beam damage)
* No way to see if I am in diplomatic cooldown (and how much remain) form the diplomatic overview. I would also like to have an option to diplay things like number of tech available to trade.
* While the diplomatic cooldown is a good step, it does not prevent sharing 5 or 10 tech every 20 turns with each oponents, maybe a system similar to stardrive 2 would avoid this kind of abuse (limiting the quantity of stuff traded). diplomacy skill could increase this number and speedup cooldown.
* Is it a bug or does the tech for tourism cost much more than any other tech at this level (like 5x more)?
Edit:
I see influence has been rebalanced just now, so I will have to try that, but in any case, the AI need to build influence building when its planet is in or near the influence zone of another civ.
A small enh request: could we have an invert x-axis mouse rotation option? I really am not able to get used to the way rotation work currently
