Last time on the dev stream Paul talked about the possibility of two "United Planets" on larger maps. This got me thinking about how "Elemental 2015" is supposedly implementing asymetric gameplay and if something similiar might be possible further down the road for "Gal Civ 3".
My idea would be to introduce two or three ancient and very powerful races, ike the dread lords in an expansion. They would have highly advanced technologies but theit goal would not be to dominate the younger races through conquest but to defeat the other ancient races by forming a coalition with several younger ones. Theese coalitions would then take the place of the regular UP and devide the galaxy in a battle between the ancients and their supporters.
Your goal when playing as one of the powerful races would be to manipulate the other races in either siding with you or waging war against each other, to ultimatly defeat the other "ancient races" and their vassals.
As a younger race you would have to weigh your options. Do you side with one of the ancients, or form an alliance of your own to defeat them. Hell you could even find some "minor" ancients to help you in your fight.
If anyone watched "Babylon 5", this would be just like the war between the Schadows and the Vorlons and would give the game a new and interesting spin IMHO.
Of course this specific game mode would be an option you could choose when you set up a new game.
What do you guys think about somethink like this? Too convoluted or a possibility? Would love to hear from the dev's too.
