The ship designer is here!

Unleash your inner engineer with the most advanced starship customization tool to grace your PC’s display. We put everything in your hands. Select, attach, scale, and rotate hundreds of parts (with many, many more to come) to create the ship of your dreams.

The shipyard, like the rest of the game, is in an alpha state. It’s undeniably powerful, but we need your feedback on what you’d like to see in the interface, if you’d like different templates, what types of parts you’d like to see us build, and anything else that comes to mind. We deeply appreciate the feedback of our Founders, and we hope that aspiring ship designers of all skill levels will jump in and tell us what they think.

The shipyard is also missing some pieces that are still under development. Particle effects, subsurface materials, and custom parts (among other things) will be added later.

The patch also addresses several bugs and multiplayer issues – thank you as always for your invaluable feedback in tracking these down.

Please note that you must start a new game to access the shipyard. Old saves will not be able to play with the new toy.

To download the patch, simply connect to Steam and let the automatic download magic happen. You may have to restart your Steam client.

The version number isn’t wrong, by the way – we’ve just changed to a more standard versioning nomenclature from our previous x.x.x.x format. Sorry for any confusion.

The oscillate option and the symmetry options are making me giddy!

First observation after trying it: Finishing from the ship designer and exiting it results in a slowdown of the whole game for a couple of seconds. Is it loading everything back to memory?

The Shipyard is only available from inside a game right now.  Start a game and then you will find the Shipyard.  Enjoy!

Two words: keyboard shortcuts. Specifically, for rotation and scaling of parts on the fly etc. If they're not already planned, that is. Also, had a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to rotate the ship while working on it. Eventually discovered holding the middle mouse button down helps but, it wasn't the first thing I tried. That would have been the other two mouse buttons. I'm sure though that as long as it's specified clearly in a manual/tutorial somewhere on release, people won't get too frustrated trying to figure it out.

My above aside, currently attempting to use what's available to recreate the Heretic/Coercer hull from EVE Online. Wish me luck

I'm going to starve and wither away, why did you launch this now?  I've got bills to pay!  :'(

1) I tested three times.  the technologies to boost miniaturization and speed of engines doesn't actually take effect.

2) I'd recommend making it more clear how to turn the ship so that placing parts is easier.  I did figure it out, but it took me longer than it should need to.

3) The balance between tiny, small, and medium ships seems right where it should be.  I haven't had a chance to compare larger than medium.

That's what I've got so far.

Can we get hanger modules? that would be freaking awesome. Could we also not have troop numbers in the billions? that always bugged me that a troop transport can carry a billion troops with inly 2 troop modules.

The game is still unplayable for me, because most of the UI elements are unlabeled.  All I see are black buttons with no clue what's going to happen when I click them.  See http://i.imgur.com/7mV3pNu.jpg?1 for what I'm seeing, if anyone out there is not having this same problem.

Until this is fixed, this game is worthless to me.

I think that's something you should post in the support forum, along with as much info as possible.
