Primary System: Intel i7 4820 @ 3.7GHz; 16GB DDR3; NVidia GTX640 w/ 4GB DDR3; Win 8.1; 3TB HD; 27" IPS LED Monitor @ 1920x1080
Back up System: Intel i7 Q740 @ 1.73GHZ; NVidia GT340m w/ 1GB DDR?; Win 7 SP1; 500GB HD; same monitor
Game played on both machines with no crashes; but movement was noticeably slower on the back-up machine.
I did not notice anything overtly wrong with the way things stand as now; and can only assume the following things are due to this being a first-run alpha:
- Was unable to continue playing when there was nothing left to research.
- On a similar note, there was no way to end a turn without first clearing all 'idle' ships and colonies as well.
- Found the planetary UI a bit messy with the Star Port and Planet queues combined. Could be wrong, but it seemed like it was only possible to build one thing at a time, not something on the planet as well as a ship in orbit.
- When one ship's turn ended, system did not automatically jump to another ship that could be moved
- On the ideology window - there should be a counter for newly acquired points as well as the accumulated total - made it impossible to tell how many points were necessary to get to the next unlock.
- Were mining ships in this build? With no ship-builder, couldn't find any method (skill/ship) for utilizing the asteroid fields.
- Thought the graphics were pretty good, though found it distracting that some of the gas/nebula clouds flashed; same with a couple suns here and there.
- Not sure if there were more events, but each and every single planet I colonized had the same event - a precursor ship and could chose the three ideology (+25% Research, floods & -25% pop, and can't remember the third except that it too flooded most of the planet)
- The terraforming skills did not function (i.e. arid spaces did not become useable)
- Felt the button for "Idle Colony" "Idle Ship", "Research" etc. was a bit small making it easily over looked. Either larger and or highlighted would make it more noticeable.
I can see that with the new hex-grid system one has to be a bit more careful in planning out there paths if one wants to minimize wasted moves - an interesting and nice touch. Already like the new graphics and can only imagine how much better things will get as the game is worked on.
