Good:
1) Let me say that even though this is in alpha, the wave of nostalgia that hit me when I fired up Gal Civ 3 was near euphoric. You stated you all were making "The Gal Civ you always wanted to make." and I think you're absolutely on the right path.
2) I like the direction the UI design is going. Not to obtrusive, and outside the missing tooltips (which is a known quantity for the Alpha), I haven't had to much trouble finding anything that I needed.
Needs Work:
1) Whenever I have an action that needs to be taken, or an idle ship/planet, this change the text of the 'End Turn' button so that when I click it, it takes me to the correction menu/object so I can correct the issue. The bug I encountered was when I had an idle ship. I gave the ship a move order but that failed to clear the 'Idle Ship' text for the End Turn button, causing me to be stuck and not able to progress the game at all. Maybe move these to a "Critical Alerts" section or something?
2) I'm sure this is on your list of items to fix/improve as development continues, but the current model of ships "swimming" through the hex tile is completely illusion shattering for me. I get why its like that, but I hope it is changed in later releases.
Overall though, big thumbs up to you guys on the Alpha. It was actually more feature complete than I was expecting, and despite your best efforts to tell me not to Brad, I even had some fun playing it
