I played the original Section 8 right to its dying day. What a game. When I saw an advert for Section 8 Prejudice on Xbox Live, my jaw just dropped. An opportunity for a larger player-base? The series hasn't crashed? Awesome.
So yeah, great game, excellent spawn system, just enough health/shields to make firefights intense but not a case of who shoots first, and great universe, imo.
Note how one faction is the big space empire (represented by the eagle AKA USA) and the other is a small portion of it fighting for independance (the lion AKA Britain).
Notice how this is exactly the same as Killzone, which also has a morally just empire clearly based on the USA (ISA) fighting a splinter faction which is clearly British (cockney space nazis anybody?) and is somewhere just beyond the moral event horizon.
I want to know which game came first. Of course, it's far more obvious in Killzone, and probably unintentional in Section 8, but still...
I think it's interesting to note that the majority of the ARM of Orion forces aren't the evil mutant guys. They're fighting for independence and whatnot (I'd have to delve deeper into what little background is there), but for both games it seems to be that the plotline is centered more on this rogue mutant supersoldier fleet, the Spear, and 8th Armoured Infantry (or "Section 8") hunting them down.
Oh, yes, and to answer your question of "which came first?"-
Killzone 1: released mid/late 2004 (late 2005 Japan)
Section 8: September 2009 (Windows/XBox)/early 2010 (PS3)
That said, the wiki article for S8 says that the devs cite the movies Aliens and Blade Runner as sources of inspiration.
All of that being said, I personally have acquired a bit of a distaste for "US IN SPAAACE" factions. Maybe it's just because I live there (in the US), and thus see a lot of fiction with that. But then again, I'm rather more interested in German and Russian cultures (European in general would be fairly accurate), and really like Latin women (es muy caliente! [<-that's about all I can actually say in Spanish, with the caveat that I can attach the term "Tu" ('you' in Spanish) to the front])
From what I hear BF3 tries really hard to be a "sophisticated" modern warfare game, but doesn't really pull it off.
Give me BF2:PR any day.
Please explain.

Oh, and have another delicious video:
