The only DLC you have to pay for is Warden' Keep, and it's $7. If you buy the digital download CE (Deluxe Edition), you get it for free. Warden's Keep was always intended to be for-pay DLC, and the only reason it's available on day 1 is because of the delay in the release date of the PC version of the game. This gave the DLC team enough time to finish it by launch date.
And to address the inveitable questions of why it wasn't included on the disc: the cut off date for content lockdown of the game didn't allow that to happen.
I am entirely aware of all of that, and it still smells like a con game to me. The digital download only is not an option for me. I don't like D2D, and many of the games I enjoy have mods or programs that don't work with the specially encrypted D2D .exe (like the script extenders for Bethesda games.) It's also $65.00, but doesn't come with any of the material thigns that the Collector's Edition comes with. It would be cheaper to buy the regular version and buy the DLC than buy the D2D version. All of the extra special items mentioned will be available with item codes anyway (if Dragon Age is done like every other game made by Bioware. So you're paying an extra $15 for the DLC, or paying $5 more than the CE, but miss out on having any of the tactile products it offers as well. Any way you slice it, it looks like a money grabbing move to me, even if that wasn't the case. Just because it's Bioware and the game looks amazing doesn't mean that we shouldn't be saying anything at this kind of trend.
Don't get me wrong, if the 7$ really does translate to a 5 hour quest as stated, then it's not a bad deal at all. I paid $30 for HL2 Episode 1 and wanted my money back after I finished it in what felt like minutes. It just irks me that the only reason it's not available now, is because the game was delayed and no one has any use for it yet. Having DLC ready to go before the game is shipped means that it was pre planned well in advance, and could have easily been added into the master with a very minor delay (that happened to happen anyway in this case), or should, imo, have been a free download. Pre-planned DLC that was held out of the game so it could then be charged for is a scam to me. When DLC becomes worth the price then I'll be less irked by it all. As it stands, most DLC isn't worth the money, and when I buy a game on release day, I should have all of the current bells and whistles. Having to buy the game AND the DLC on release day is just a sucker punch to the wallet in my eyes.
