For TEC and Advent, the colony frigates have an ability that can send crew over and capture them. For Vasari, the Scout Frigate has the same ability.
Lol from the title you assumed that he/she meant asteroids
Aha! Got it! I was using the capital ship for all my captures which doesn't have that ability
