Transfer of ownership?

I looked at the FAQ.. looked for a "contact us" section on the main page but found nothing, searched for "transfer" and "ownership" in the forums found nothing, and checked all the stickies I could, including the gamers bill of rights, so before you spam me with "USE THE SEARCH BAR YOU JERK!" messages I've tried to look best as I can!

I even used GOOGLE to look for it!

I have a friend who has moved onto new games and is giving me this one next time I see him, and I keep seeing that I won't be able to transfer, yet I've seen that stardock changed thier bill of rights to include it...

So, how do I go abouts changing the ownership to me once I have the game?

Oh, and before you yell at me for not supporting stardock:

Heck, I'd even pay 5 bucks or whatever just to transfer it, to support stardock, although, I intend on buying the expansions so I'll be supporting them anyway... so if I'm blind, please link me the correct way I need to direct myself for this information.

I'm not sure where in the Bill of Rights you read it, but Stardock does not actually support serial transfers between accounts. You can email support@stardock.com and talk to them about it, but chances are they'll stick to policy. They might offer a discounted key purchase if you already have a box, though.

Yes, I'm aware of that, which is why I asked where in it you read that they do transfers, because it doesn't actually say that anywhere

Yarr, but that says physical. As in, you can re-sell the disk and the game will work - which does hold true for Sins. But, they still don't transfer registrations between accounts, that has been argued and debated on the forums on several occasions

Still, support will get back to you one way or the other!

Note: You will need a owned and validated copy of Sins to buy the expansions too I would imagine. Impulse will be checking!!!

I also cannot recall where in the GBOR it says users can transfer licences SECOND HAND...

Oh I see what you are saying, so I'm SOL and will have to purchase a new licence in order to play online.  Thanks.

Don't you just need your friend's Impulse login ID and password?  As far as I know Impulse doesn't take a snapshot of your computer's hardware.  (Am I wrong about that?)

Technically, no. But I do believe they red-flag accounts that get accessed from too many different IPs.

Thats a shame they don't allow transfering of registration numbers, but I suppose its smart marketing, since new users will ultimately have to purchase the entire game brand new to play it online.

This effectivly kills the used market for these games, something these companies have been fighting to get rid of for a long time... I know ebgames and gamestop used games sales account for a massive amount of lost sales for the company producing the game itself.

 

I'll check it out and see, I'm not even sure hes played it online, usually hes a LAN guy, so I might luck out.  Either way I'll see what support says... maybe I'll still get the collectors edition if all fails, I like posters, and would like to support well done games like this.

 

Thanks for the help guys, too bad the sins FAQs don't elaborate on this, I know a lot of folks will read that bill of rights the wrong way, just as I had, and it would save quite a bit of time on the buyers part and save him or her some wasted cash on buying a game he cannot activate online.  I should of known the word used would cause a loophole of sorts, sneaky lawyers.
