Godzilla. Not only is he the "King of the Monsters" but he also holds the record for "Longest Living Monster", "Most Victories against Other Monsters", "Most damage to Human Cities", and "Most Unkillable".

In Godzilla vs. Megaguires, the Japanese government built a Black Hole Gun and blasted him with it, and he still survived.

Also, no other monster you can mention has survived anywhere NEAR the amount of firepower that the Big G has. Lasers, Masers, Mech versions of himself, Navy vessels, you name it he fought and destroyed it.

Big G has also never defended humans. He never stepped around a building or protected people. He just defends his territory from other monsters.

Also, the Hollywood Godzilla's name is Zilla.

Let's not forget the monster with one of the coolest rampage sequenses of all time: Gorgo's mother. Before the movie ends, she eats a battleship, takes a barrage of tank shells to the chest, and stomps London into the ground, all to save her kid.

Now THAT'S commitment.

I'm not sure if it was ever explained in detail what happened to people, creatures or things once they were dismissed to the cornfield, but surely it was not good, a good guess they were dead and the cornfield represented a sort of dumping ground for his experiments gone bad (think Spore) and people that displeased him.

I liked the remake of The Thing for it's atmosphere, but how anybody can say they were scared by a monster that was nerver defined in the movie is beyond me. There's a difference between being scared of the monster and being scared of what it can do to you. Now, the original Thing IS something to be scared of on both fronts. It was also a better movie in a lot of ways. The remake had serious script problems in that those guys never liked each other in the first place. There was little or no character progression in that regard at all, and the whole movie was based on paranoia and suspicion of the guy next to you. That should have been contrasted a lot better than it was, which was practically nil. The original didn't have those psychological elements unless you consider the mutual distrust between the scientists and the military, but character interaction was crucial to it. The original which could have been an action movie wasn't, and the remake which shouldn't have been was. Missed opportunities aside, the remake did have a lot going for it as far as quality of actors, and Kurt Russel rarely disappoints. It's stood the test of time despite it's flaws and despite being a resounding flop at the box office. There's talk of more remakes, so watching the skies might be an activity to engage in for fans.
