Latest Update WTF

I just updated Twilight or Arnor to the latest version and tried to play a game and holy cow, what the heck are you people doing? The game is continually being made crappier with each new update.

I get the latest update and all of a sudden the Terran Alliance leader is some she-male called "Jenna". Ok whatever, I don't have to look at it when playing.

The research times are completely ridiculous. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to research lasers or 10 turns to research armor theory. WTF?!

All the planets now have 60% approval throughout the entire game.

The AI players are constantly sending me stupid messages like "OH WE ARE GOING TO SHARE THIS TECH WITH YOU. PSYCH!". WTF? Why is the computer constantly saying this over and over again? What value does this add to the game? They also are chatting me up with stupid things that I don't care about like "OH WE JUST STARTED RESEARCHING FARMS" Wow! Thanks for sharing! WTF?!

Terran alliance economy is lousy throughout the entire game. Have nothing but market centers on half my planets and my income is going negative after building a couple Star Fury's.

Meanwhile the computer players colonize a million planets and spend money like drunken sailors and constantly annoy me with demands to pay them to keep the peace. WTF?

There is always one AI player that can colonize any planet even the class 0's and spreads like AIDS across the map while I am sitting around with my 4 planets. WTF?

It's completely obvious that the AI plays by different rules and gets major economy bonuses.

The deck is getting more and more stacked with every release and it's become so ridiculous with this last release that the game just plain sucks now.

I used to enjoy this game but enough is enough.

I placed Neutrality Learning Centers on every tile of Mars + a Tech Capital. I also had 2 other planets with research bonuses and built learning centers on those.I set spending 100% in research and it's taking 15 turns to research STINGER and 12 turns for BASIC RAILGUNS. Planetary Invasion 60 TURNS! LOL! What a crock.

Could this be associated with research time problem for the altarians?

The inflation of tech-cost is a known issue, or at least Brad knows about it, it can't be solved no matter how much you fiddle with the sliders, nor by turning your entire empire into one big god damn university, as every time you research a new tech the cost of all remaining techs rise.

I turned all of the resources and tiles of my 80 planet empire towards research, and Stingers II still needed three turns to be researched, all the while I should be eating my way through the missile branch like a beaver on meth.

This might need fixing a bit earlier than in July me thinks...

Strange that it doesn't seem to ever have affected me. I've just finished a Painful Gigantic game as Humans and towards the end went to finish a basic tech - Chaff I think. It showed 1 turn to complete but when I hit End Turn it actually completed 5 (!) techs in the chain.

As to the OP, for the first 2 years I typically run a defecit economy and only keep afloat by tech selling. After then I can usually get Econ treaties and finally get my economy into the black for once. The economy certainly takes some getting used to but there is certainly no need to make more than you spend if you are happy to sell tech. Of course I've only tried this as Humans so far - I suppose that I may get a nasty surprise if I try this with a non-diplomatic race.

I haven't encountered the issue with inflated tech costs either (or at least I don't think I have). I played a Standard map on Challenging with the Terran Alliance when I first downloaded TA. My economy was fine, and the techs kept coming at a reasonable rate. I got stuck with Earth and Mars in the beginning, and only got a 3rd planet later when I was the first to get the right terraforming tech. I went for an ascension victory, which means the other races hated my guts. I kept selling techs to keep them sweet for a while, and made enough money to pay them to dogpile anyone else who attacked me. I kept them distracted long enough to get enough points for the win. If there is an issue I haven't seen it yet, but I hope it gets fixed soon anyway. Who knows when it'll pop up.

TA is definately harder... and research times (especially for weapons) seems a lot...lot...lot... longer. I've been having fits adjusting, but I am staying afloat.

Does the game penalize you for pursuing more than one weapon tree? Seems like Mass Drivers II shouldn't take one turn less than Particle Beams III. But goodness, weapons seem to take so much longer to research than they used to... Even the AI seems to be researching them very slowly.

I assume that I have been playing the beta as I downloaded it MONTHS ago. I've been running the Stardock update every 1 to 2 weeks. Never had a problem until the last update. I am also playing as the "Industrialists" party - I did not mention that before either.

You are a moron. The Thalan Empire is colonizing planets that were class 0 the entire game. The habitable planets game setting is set to "OCCASIONAL". There are stars surrounding Earth in the beginning with nothing but class 0 planets. About an hour into the game, Thalan Empire starts colonizing every single one of them.

I'm guessing, as have others here, that you have a messed up install. It was recommended not to install the final version over any previous beta versions. I'd recommend you uninstall the game and install the final version, then report back and see if that does the trick. You're game is broken, so any saves you have really wouldn't be worth saving, in my opinion, in case that's what's holding back from starting from scratch.

I guess I did not get the memo about not updating betas as I typically just run the Stardock automatic updater; I don't recall ever seeing any warning that I was doing something that I should not have been.

I REALLY enjoyed reading this thread. Lots of humor here, good times and noodle salad for everyone!

Anyhow, for what its worth, I would like to add that I have started to see research times that don't make sense as well. We can rule out install problems because I didnt have the beta anyhow, but my problem as been with the Korx.

Games plays fine, econ is perfect, I'm on a tiny galaxy, masochistic, with 6 or 7 opponents. I control 17 planets. Needless to say, I'm "winning" at the moment. Sliders are at 35 social, 65 research, 100% production. Morale and population are acting normal, everything is looking good until I get to Stinger III and Harpoons. All of sudden Stinger 3 takes 15 turns. Harpoon is 19 turns after that. That simply can't be right. These are not even "high" level weapons. Meanwhile, the Korath, the uber-scientists they are (even with Maso bonus), have 3 planets, and using spies, NONE have a tech capital or any real means of research, yet they have psionic weapons and large hulled ships. That makes me look at large ships for myself. 32 turns, woah. So, I don't really know what the problem might be, but I have noticed some strange changes with research as well.

Piznit: While you may not have any issues with installing over the beta, that does not mean that your install is correct. I had some issues with the impulse beta botching installs. I know that the research cost inflation was discussed here, and that Brad is aware of the issue. I just say all this because if it is possible to try a reinstall and then test for the same conditions (previous save game vs new game maybe?) we might find out what is causing it for both of you.

I went ahead and started a whole new game just to prove to myself that I am not insane. I placed Neutrality Learning Centers on every tile of Mars + a Tech Capital.

So you placed the top level tech structure, that takes the most time to build, on a minor planet with no production facility to help build it, and at the same time placed the tech capital of your whole empire on one of the smallest planets you have crippling its best effect, and expected to get fast results? It is also at a point ion the game (availability of NLCs) when the Tech Capital should have been built many many turns before that to get best value.

The more you post the examples you are giving the more you are showing you dont know the basics. People are willing to help, but if you continue to ignore that and post examples of how not to play it - its impossible to help you. Its pointless making comments when the examples you give are so shot full of holes in a strategy sense

What types and numbers of research labs and similar did you have built when you were trying to research those? The setting of the counter to 100% research only means you can allocate 100% of the research facilities that you have built, if you have built very few, then not surprisingly you will have very few research points to use in making those weapon systems. Most people will do that one in around 1-5 turns - roughly. Its taking you 15 because you dont understand the principles on how these things are built.

You need to learn the basics, and you will not do that in this way. If you let people help you, it'll work, if you dont, the continued stream of poor play examples only serves to show how much you are missing.

I then played for a couple hours beyond that and researched up to Neutrality Learning Centers along the way. I didn't just start building Neutrality Learning Centers from scratch YOU MORON. You can also get more tiles on Mars using Habitat Improvement and Terraforming YOU MORON.

I re-installed the game and all of a sudden the research times are back to normal! WOW! Looks like you have egg on your face!

Thanks for lecturing me on things I learned the first day I played the game. Looks like I am now ready to move on, Obi-Wan. Idiot.

You should also clean out your 'My Documents/My Games/GC2TwilightArnor" folders. Some preferences get stored there, while they theoretically shouldn't interfere with a new install, it's best to delete them as well.

Unfortunately, you'll only know when the install didn't work - and you're experiencing the bug again.
