Overpriced much?

I saw a review of SSE on TV and thought I would give it a shot, and downloaded an iso off of BitTorrent, quite a nice game, was even considering buying it, but what? 45USD? You gotta be kidding me.

Did the price get adjusted to fit in with Australia's pay 2X as much as the USA scheme?

Even if I didn't have to deal with using yet another digital distribution service (hint: Gamers use Steam) the most I would pay would be $20.

I hope the price is just really high for the moment to get the most profit from all the reviews around the place.

If the game had a campaign mode, a larger soundtrack, native Linux version and was released on multiple digital distribution services, than I might consider otherwise.

I'll just stick with playing with my friends via hamachi, thnx.

The normal price for a big-budget PC game in the US is $45-50. I bought Sins for $40. You could probably buy it for $30-35 if you looked around.

And a native Linux version? I can understand the other complaints, but the only major developer I know of that consistently makes native Linix games is id, their last one being Quake Wars.

I guess you don't make a habit of buying your games in general. Most new games these days are priced at $50 or more (and console games run $60+).

I absolutely expect a game like this to be priced around $50. BestBuy had it for $30 though..

Sins is sold under a reasonable price, IMHO.

This game is cheap as far as recent releases go, if $30-45 is too much for a new game for you, you probably shouldn't be playing new games.

Seems to be to also be a very poor decision to post on the official boards, telling them you're going to keep pirating their game, while seemingly using the same user name as you use other places (both a 16 year old austrailian male)

Sins has a relatively great price point. I got mine for $35 new. Most newly released PC games are $50 these days. The bright spot in all of this is that at least one of the Stardock team knows this, and isn't perturbed by your post.

Yeah, that's unrealistic.

The most *you* might expect to pay is $20, but I'm extremely pleased at the $40Cdn I paid for the game and thought it was enormously worth the price. Very few games sell for less than $30 unless they're crap budget titles or are no longer new and shiny and are relegated to the bargain bin.

[size=3]Not too pleased that you're stealing the game, too.[/size] Especially when you come and complain on the website of the people that worked hard to build it.

Oh boy, a whiny pirate. Why would they make a Linux port based on the feedback of someone who wouldn't buy the game anyway?

About the only legit thing in this entire post is the online price. I found it confusing that a digital only version directly from Stardock is $45 US, but a physical copy from a store (with much higher distribution costs) is $40 Canadian.

Not that I mind paying $5 less for a game, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

It seems to me they could put together enough information to persue legal action against this guy. They probably have his IP address, his email, .. well, they could at least scare him.

This is because the online version (even the download-only) is a collector's edition that has access to extra goodies Some stores have ordered CEs, but not many, so they sell the regular and slightly cheaper version

There doesn't need to be a native Linux version... in fact that's only economically somehow viable for OpenGL based games. For DirectX based games Wine is fine.

If Stardock / Ironclad wanted increased Linux compatibility over what they have now, they could hire Codeweavers or Transgaming to do it, or contribute patches to Wine themselves.

Oh and not glad to hear you can't afford the game because you're from "down under", so don't take this as me trying to annoy you or something - I'd however like to point out that currently, in Europe, due to the relative loss of the dollar vs the Euro and other European currencies, Sins is generally a bit below the price of the average new game, and thus well affordable...

Durikkan, it's not worth the cost it would take to chase down a single pirate that steals a copy for their own use. Stardock and IronClad are being quite successful by treating their *true* customers the right way, and if they lose a few purchases to pirates, well, those kind of people would have just stolen a cracked copy anyway.

Stardock does not lower the price for end users because they are selling the game to retail stores at the same time.
Doing otherwise would look like they where competing with above mentioned stores. Which might make them stop selling the game.

$45 is undervalued and quite a bargain for the hours of entertainment it will provide you.

Popular PC games have cost $40 to $50 for the past 10 years. With the rate of inflation, a pc game today should cost around $80 easy.

You know, pirate, you could just find one of the many deals that drops it under it's already reasonable price.

Oh wait, it's easier to keep on using it for free like an ass.

Games like this don't come around often and should be paid for when they do. It's 40 bucks, that's a steal for this title and games of this caliber.

I paid for COD4 - I paid for this

There are many other games I 'tried' and deleted, but this certainly isn't one of them.

Unbelievable.

*edit* So, how many hours of enjoyment have you already gotten out of this game, PhailQuail? From the sounds of it, since you're going to keep "playing with my friends via hamachi", maybe the price isn't such a bad deal after all. Wait a minute...you're Australian, right? The value of the US dollar is falling. If you buy Sins off the Stardock distribution site for $40 you'll probably get a great deal depending on how much currency conversion costs.

I do have to say that I will not buy games that are above $50. Most of the games I've ever bought were at $40 and $45 because I wait for Circuit City to put them on sale, which happens a lot. Games in general are getting more overpriced, but Sins was fairly priced when I bought it.

Hmm, I can swear I paid 35.00 USD for it. The price was VERY good for the product and I've not regreted it.

I thought the US Dollar has fallen in value. Shouldn't everyone actually be getting a discount due to exchange rates?

You care to guess how many console games I've paid $60 USD for that havn't recieved more then 3 hours of play time - 6 of 7! And these console games are refered to as AAA titles in the industry. pfh

This game is deffintely worth the purchase.
