Yes, i use the team/player color for light ( alpha cl )... a dark background is only possible without colored skybox, and in dark place like at the back of planet...
The fact is that i have problem with texture since the 1.1x sins... nothing work like before and i have not yet find how it need to be now... so, i have seek my own way... not perfect but look good... any way, Canadaman have a normal cl texture version, not one reduce to the alpha channel... i can create the right texture and use them in any normal 3D software but i cannot mix them like it is needed for have the same effect in sins game...
About spaceship with neon, don't complain, my first try have give a ship who look like a super-nova...

Personally, i would love a spaceship with Neon lights. Partly because its illegal to have them installed on your car ($500 ticket + police impound)
I think that the real reason you would love it, is because your titan rogue ship, these with casino and hooker... once you have it made and have a texture, send it to me... i will try to add some neon thing... Vegas style... i think that it is possible if i work on the pixel level... of course, color of the neon will be these of your team/player color... simply try that the original color texture have not too much color in itself because all become grayscale... color is only generated via the alpha cl... blue da channel is used for the bump map ( not more possible to use for real nm map ) and the original texture map...
By the way, any method that i have create will not work with any Stardock patch related to texture... by example, the covenant carrier was made for 1.05 ... texture in Entrenchment last version look ugly... i can remade it for the last sins version but i need to wait the return of Canadaman since i have not more the .mesh in txt mode for try it in game... but i have the texture in PNG format, with a lossless compression...
Soon, will come a new model for the UNSC... a capitalship who act like the Ogrov torpedo launcher... weak shield, weak hull, but a very strong firepower for a short time... everything missiles and torpedo's ( shiva nuclear warhead ), a lot of them... use will be simple... jump in, shoot, flee before the counter attack, send the rest of the fleet... maybe the 60 missile harpoint will be used for "usual" missile who can maybe destroy a mine field ( like a scout but more powerfull )... rest will be numerous ability who shoot torpedo ( shiva nuclear war head ) for destroy structure or starbase... these ship will not be able to destroy capital or other strong ship without being destroy first... but it will be able to clean the road for a invasion force with some combat support... by the way, it is only a project between me and Canadaman, nothing official... but since the UNSC will be part of 7DS, we need weapons able to counter the other races in 7DS...
